I think I need a vacation from my long weekends.
Friday--Got out of work early, then met
umama, L, B & J for Red White and Boom. We all had free tickets to Promowest, where They Might Be Giants played pre-boom. Actually, we had nearly a dozen extra free tickets amongst the five of us. We're not certain anyone actually paid to get in to the event. It was fun though, and I have "Particle Man" recorded in my phone, with absolutely no way to get it out of the phone, but I'm working on that.
Saturday, I went shopping for a gift for S & I, and found a cool vase. (I later noticed they had pieces that matched it in their second floor bathroom!) I tried on dresses several places and was generally depressed that nothing fits me anymore. I even went to DSW and actually did not buy shoes! I did get some orange Cotton Ease yarn though, at a closeout price of $2 a ball, so at some point I'm going to make myself a swanky $12 cardigan.
The reception itself was very nice. They've redone their backyard and it's absolutely gorgeous -- they even have a fountain! The cakes were exquisite as well. I didn't feel great though, as I'd been working on a migraine since Friday night, so I stayed away from the bar and went home to bed right after it was over.
Sunday, was the Doo-dah parade. Our extended group ended up with three themes: the Carbohydrate Liberation Front (with slogans like "I Think Your Sausage Needs a Biscuit" and "One Pretzel Away from Peace"), the Al Qaida Terrorist Sleeper Cell (they wore jammies and carried shopping bags full of "dynamite" and kept going to sleep along the parade route) and the Smoking Ban Media Circus. I was in the latter. Let me just say now that I will never again wear a black wig, with all my hair shoved up under it in 90 degree heat. Bad move on my part. But, the whole parade was terribly fun, and I even became rather skilled at the hula hoop by the end of it. I was even propositioned by a bystander in the middle of High Street. (I think that was the bustier showing its power!) But, as soon as the parade ended I felt a wreck. It rained for five minutes at the beginning of the parade, so all my sunscreen washed off. So I was overheated, sunburnt, dehydrated, and exhausted. I pretty much felt like I had heatstroke, so I ended up spending most of the afternoon indoors before joining my cohorts for barhopping later.
I ended up having to cut my skirt off my person after the parade. It was a polyester blend, and I couldn't stand to have it on any longer, but I broke the zipper pull off of it.
automat76 tried to break the zipper to get me out, but that didn't work, so I ended up cutting it off with a pair of safety scissors.
Hopefully pictures will emerge soon of the festivities. I have a few here, but very few of our group. And
automat76 ended up in a full color photo in The Dispatch, but they don't allow online access to their content. Blah.
