Why it's too early to *heart* the 90s
This is a great column about how we've sped up "nostalgification."
Hey, I thought it was too early for I Love the 80s too, mostly because I don't feel old enough for anything from my childhood to be "classic" yet. I hate that they've made Strawberry Shortcake "hip" now. I liked her in her retro pinafores and brown plastic shoes.
automat76 and I were having a discussion about this very thing the other night and why I've cringed at 80s nostalgia all along. I wrote a column in college about how I didn't want to be rocking in my chair at the home when I'm 90 and listening to "Rock the Casbah." I need to find that.
Yet, now that I think about it, I'm way more nostalgic about the 90s. I loved grunge--the music, the flannel, all of that (ok, not the heroin). So maybe it's not a half bad idea.
