I have read not one but two books recently, that have asserted that the moment Michael Dukakis lost the 1988 presidential election was when he put on a helmet and rode around in the tank. I remember seeing this on television, but I was too young for insightful political commentary, so I must ask, given this scenario, why is it that Shrubya wasn't ousted simply for wearing the codpiece/flightsuit getup? Because if comical military fashion "don'ts" can really be that serious, I think the latter is more egregious.

Or maybe not. I am wearing pointy-toed 80s flats today, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

'Cause Dukakis wasn't a sitting president with a current war on--at that time, there were no scary-to-the-US wars in sight. (That Bush is making a hash of this one isn't the point.) Also, Dukakis was hurt by Willie Horton as well. I don't think it was as simple as The Tank Incident.
