Amy Rigby

So, last night was the Amy Rigby show at Little Brothers that I was so jazzed about. I got there before BF and sent her a text message to say, "Hey there's a grand total of 8 people here." So it was not a very well attended show, but she was good at making fun of it, saying that she'd spend 5 minutes a piece with each of us after she was done playing and the like. She did a whole lot of onstage pratter, which would have probably made for a really fun audience interaction show had anyone but the two drunkest guys in the place been answering her back.

She did my two favorite songs off of Diary of a Mod Housewife though: Beer and Kisses and 20 Questions, and that one off the new album (which I still need to get) that's something like "Are We Ever Gonna Have Sex Again." The funniest one was definitely a song she's written for a guy to sing that had a chorus along the lines of "I hate every bone in her body but mine." Classic.

Had a semi-productive weekend. Started teaching STS to knit, the results of which are still iffy. Seems I forgot he was left-handed until we got back from our yarn-buying excursion, etc. so teaching was a bit odd. Thankfully he's ambidextrous enough that he was getting the basic idea of it. I do think I have convinced him that he'll need every bit of the 7 months until his sister's baby is born to get the darn thing done.

I haven't heard from T. yet, though I haven't given up hope yet. I'd really like to just say hey--he was always such a fun guy when I knew him before and it seems like a decade ago. Have thought of contacting other people I've lost touch with too. I guy I sorta-dated during college just popped up as an intern for _Tin House_ but I can't figure out how to send him a note without engaging a rousing game of "let's make fun of the intern for receiving fan mail" which will absolutely mortify him.

Speaking of fan mail, I never responded to that guy who wrote me about my wine poem. And I never told that restaurant in Connecticut to cease and desist using it in their wine list. Hmmmm...that goes on the list, right after unclogging the bathroom sink (who knew what growing my hair out to shoulder length from 2" would do to the plumbing?). But first, laundry, where I will be going now.

All things media....

So, BestFriend and I decided to go to some movies at Studio 35 on Saturday. Being that I am officially a student again, the double feature is a mere $3.50, so it's a hard one to pass up. So we went to Legally Blonde 2 & Charlie's Angels 2. Um....well, I like Reese Witherspoon, I really do. But if the girls does one more thing after this and the travesty that was Sweet Home Alabama, then I'm really going to reconsider that opinion. I dubbed it, "worst movie I've ever seen in a theatre." CA2 was better, if only because it was what is was supposed to be (pure, unadulterated cheese) and I still like watching chicks kick ass. Plus there's that whole identification with Drew Barrymore thingee.

In the world of books, I have recently stopped reading a book, over 25 pages into it!!! I have never, ever done this. It was Anthony Trollope's Barchester Towers. I just could not get into it. So I read the next book club book instead (Three Junes) and loved it (I didn't even thing I'd care that much for it.) Julia Glass has so redeemed the "first novel" after the travesty that was The Dive from Clausen's Pier. Then I read The Nanny Diaries while recovering from a migraine this weekend. It was an okay book for what it was, but wow, why aren't these Rich Bitch Park Avenue Shopping Moms being arrested for child neglect? It was really depressing.

So now, I'm reading In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez. I like her a lot. Then I'm hoping that my cheesy paperback club will get the new Margaret Atwood out in paper soon because I'm dying to read it, but I don't want to have to shell out a billion dollars for it. (Especially since my car muffler is sounding awfully odd right now--I hope it's not anything trickling in from the accident -- I've only had the car back from the body shop a couple of weeks.)

The Drexel hasn't had anything that's really grabbed me lately (though I do think I want to see Whale Rider). I hate wishing for summer to be over, but it's such a dry spell for movies for movie snobs like me. :-(

one little bit of silliness

Which Rock Chick Are You?

If I hadn't ended up someone cool, I wouldn't have bothered posting it. I will admit that I am that shallow. :-)
