(no subject)

I don't understand why when I got my nose pierced, it was 5 days before anyone at work noticed and had the guts to say anything, but I color my hair and immediately many people feel it appropriate to say things like, "You dyed your hair." What on earth is the response to this? It's not a compliment, so one doesn't say "thank you." I don't feel it's something I should have to discuss either. I need to consult Miss Manners.

I almost replied, "And you're going bald" to one person. Seeing as how we seemed to be playing a game of notice the obvious.

Of course, if I would touch up my hair color more regularly, no one would notice when I come in and it's different. I'll admit it's a lot different today: darker than it's ever been, and more purple than red, but still. I wish I didn't sit directly below a light--then people passing by wouldn't notice it quite so much.

This sounds pissy, but really, I do like the way it turned out. I feel like I look a lot better with darker hair.

Maybe I'll post the chronology of all my hair colors/styles later on. That would be a fun project.

One of my favorites is "Oh cr*p! Who did that when I wasn't looking?" (Usually it's about a hair style instead of color, but hey.)

See, that would work perfectly because everyone seems to assume that I paid someone to do this, when in actuality, I am far too much of a control freak about my hair to let anyone else, even a professional, near it with dye. I'm weird that way.

I suppose if you had had it done at a salon you could just look blank and reply in a puzzled tone "no I didn't". See what they say to that!

I'm imagining this as a scene in a play -- people who know each other are hanging around waiting for, say, everyone on the guest list to arrive. Each one who comes in tells [livejournal.com profile] pixiecrinkle that she dyed her hair. For each new arrival [livejournal.com profile] pixiecrinkle has a different wiseass remark, culminating perhaps in the "you're going bald" one. :-)
