ha HA!
Apparently our little adventure from the patio at Barcelona did not go unnoticed by the powers that be the other night...
I went to lunch today with two people from my old department (S & K) for K's birthday, which was last week. We had planned to go to Barcelona long before the fiasco we went through the other night. When we got there today, the same hostess was (eventually) at the front. We waited for quite a while for our table, with several other parties, until she finally said she would send the manager up front.
The manager in question was the general manager, who managed the Cafe back when I worked at the Drexel. He seated another party, then seated us. Once we were at our table, he said to me, "So, I hear you didn't have the greatest experience the last time you were here. I was sorry to hear that." The only thing I can figure out as to what happened is that the JavaMaster (see entries from several months ago) who filled our water glasses the other night must have said something the next day to the GM about what happened, and that coincidentally, I was a member of the offended party. I told him it turned out to at least be a good story, and he said that it had been taken care of so it wouldn't happen again to anyone. I assume this meant that the manager guy who nearly kicked us out had been dealt with, and not the hostess, since she was still there.
So we had a nice lunch, then the server went to fetch our checks. She was gone for a while, but when she returned, she said that lunch was on them since I'd had such a bad experience before. Which rocked, except that I wished that
automat76,
ryan_rita & C. could have been able to reap the benefits!!!
When we left, we didn't get a chance to thank the GM though, because he was in a rather intense discussion with the hostess in question, who was obviously being very defensive about something (probably having to do with her flippant answers to why no one was being seated when we got there). So the saga with her continues I suppose.
