Fun with useless ashtrays

Apparently there is a small movement to make restaraunts and bars in Columbus smoke free. I'm not getting my hopes up, but that would rock! This site has info for business owners and I loved the thing above.

that was the thing i really noticed about nyc. i loved it! i could go to a show and not walk out with stinging eyes like i do here. it would piss a lot of people off if they did that here, but i really dont think its fair to be subjected to other people's vices when all i want to do is relax and watch some music or eat my food without it tasting like a fucking ashtray. my smoker friends dont seem to get it.

Well, the link came from NBC4, and their "unscientific" poll showed 50/50 support to non-support.

The site I linked quoted statistics (but with no citations...grrr.) that most smokers support a smoking ban in restaurants. I think that's probably true among my friends, but I wish they said how they came to that conclusion.

They also concentrated on the restaurant thing, which honestly, doesn't bother me nearly as much as bars. In restaurants, I don't tend to come home reeking of smoke like I do when I go out to a show or a bar.

origami foil ... nice. :-)

i think it was bloomington (home of IU) that recently made the same change, but it sucked that there was a grandfather clause -- meaning, it was VOLUNTARY for existing restaurants/bars and mandatory only for NEW ones.

the suckiest thing about the bars there was "running through the smokers gauntlet" on the way inside since there were folk crammed by the doors. imagine being able to wear wool to a concert in the winter (and no febreeze required) -- kick ass.

I don't really ever sit in the smoking section so, no. I suppose it would make more difference at places like the Dube or Betty's where there aren't "sections", but I don't notice it, no.
