Why I need to be on Jeopardy!

Okay, this dude on Jeopardy! is getting excessive. Tonight will mark his 30th appearance, and he's almost hit $1 million. If he doesn't get stopped this week, he'll definitely hit that mark.

Thing is, yeah, this guy is good, but I think I could give him a run for his money. And I don't mean to say that and sound egotistical -- I really do think I'd be a good match for his buzzer technique. He's phenomenal on questions, but I've seen people who are better in that respect. He's winning because of his buzzing technique. I think he's good at this for two reasons:

a. He has practice--from college bowl, etc.
b. He writes quiz bowl questions, so he understands the tricks in phrasing.

I was a part of a quiz team from my freshman year of high school until my senior year of college. So I've got the buzzer experience too. And I was always the person who rang in first, because I'm good at reading faster than the Alex Trebek person can.

I tried out for Jeopardy! about 2 years ago. I missed getting into the interview portion of the tryout by *one question.* So I'm really crossing my fingers that I get called for an audition this year. I'm in the Chicago pool for this summer. I'm saving my free plane ticket on Southwest until I hear or until the month is up.

From all the articles I've read, dear Ken has already taped the show he loses in, so there's no way I'll get matched with him. But now, I've got a goal to beat. :-)

The guy has to have studied Trebek's inflections, knowing when to hit the buzzer at the right time when Alex stops reading - even if he doens't know the answer.

he's going to be on Letterman tonight. My guess is that he loses tonight or tomorrow, and doesn't make a million. Too bad :)

I thought he was soon to lose last time a bunch of articles started showing up too, but that was two weeks ago and he's still going. I do think it will be this week though.

I don't like this unlimited-wins thing, and mourn for the years when one week or $100,000 (before they doubled the amounts per square) was the limit. Anyone who got that automatically got into the tournament of champions, and they started over with three new people the next time around.

At first I thought the change was crappy too, but I do realize that Jeopardy! needs to compete with the Who Wants to be a Millionaire type shows. And frankly, when's the last time Jeopardy! got this much press?

Plus, I still think I could beat this guy and go for a while. That's me being egotistical again. :-)
