So I've been uncharacteristically silent here for a while now. I took Friday, Monday and Tuesday off work. I didn't realize how much of a break I needed, until I actually got the chance to sit around knitting in front of the TV, where I drooled over barely legal swimmers. That Michael Phelps is a *hottie*. I was thrilled to come in to work to find that two of my friends, who are older than me, are also drooling over him. I feel like less of a perv now. One of them even told her husband that if he wanted her to be happy, he'd better (and I quote) "install a lap pool in the backyard and start shaving his chest."

Yesterday, I spent my birthday cash from my grandparents at the yarn store. I got some angora/merino blend yarn in a gorgeous dark plum and dark olive to make myself the most luxurious hat and scarf set ever. The stuff was $16.00 a ball normally, but it was 40% off because the colors were discontinued, so I got a deal. Also got myself some wildly colored Kureyon so I can work with it before I start my sweater. And some Silk Garden to make my mom and sister scarves for Christmas.

The afghan is nearing completion. I have the border done on the top and started on the bottom. All the superfluous embroidery except that on the border is done. A few more nights in front of the Olympics and I'll be done, with a week or so to spare!! Then I'm allowed to start some projects. I have another bday gift to do soon, and I need to organize my thoughts for Christmas presents. I found a sweater in the fall issue of Vogue Knitting that I really want to make for myself -- it looks like an embroidered Victorian chair cushion. I'm not a great lover of intarsia, but this is a great design. So we'll see. I've got a sweater vest to do for grandma for Christmas, so the sweater may have to be for next winter.

Last night a bunch of us went out for drinks for my birthday. We started at The Burgundy Room, where I rediscovered my love for dirty vodka martinis. Then [livejournal.com profile] spandita arrived. From Spain. Where he's been for a year. We all thought he was coming back later in the week, so that was a fun surprise. Then we took the party down the street to Mac's, where one of the regulars bought me an Irish coffee, and where I managed to injure myself by falling onto the handicapped rail in the bathroom. My back is swollen, but luckily, the bruise is hidden by my tattoo. Also saw [livejournal.com profile] yerpretty, [livejournal.com profile] pinupme, et al, so that was cool too.

Tonight is Lucinda Williams, rescheduled from a while back. I do love her muchly. I hope I can last through it--last night wore me out!!! I expect to see some peeps from work and from lj, so I really hope CD101 doesn't forget to send their list to will call, since I won the tickets months ago.

Thursday may be a Tapatio excursion. They are apparently closing forever, so if you are a Columbusite who has never tasted their lethal margaritas, go now, or forever be ignorant of this particular brand of tequila-induced bliss. 5:01 Bar closed a week or so back, and apparently Strada closed without me even knowing, so that whole corner will be dead soon. I know Club 504 has been defunct for a while, and UbeU is also no more. I wonder if the I-670 construction lull finally caught up with everyone, or if the arena district is redeveloping the area or what? Business has been down in that particular block for a while now, but I was hoping it would pick up for them when 670 opened. Maybe the damage was done though.

Tonight is Lucinda Williams

I think she has one of the sexiest voices on the planet. Enjoy!

Definitely. She puts on a good show, and this is my favorite venue in the city.

Post your thoughts on the Lucinda Williams show if you can. She rocks!

Oh I definitely will. This will be the third time I've seen her, and will be the best venue (outside at Promowest) barring any rain. It should be good.

I think it's indoors. Nevermind, you're there by now.

I've seen her twice, she's awesome.

Is it? Shows what I know.

We'll be going shortly. We're doing that cool "skipping the opener" thing. :-)

Aw, not The Bottle Rockets, they're ok. I saw them open for John Fogerty at Vets. Not bad, one you get past their confederate army gear :)
