My favorite local yarn shop, Wolfe Fiber Arts, is closing because the owner is retiring. Someone just posted to my SNB group.

This is really sad. I like that shop so much better than any other in the area.

Now, I just need the capital to start my own knit cafe. I wonder if I could really do it???

Is it bad that it took about a second after "aw, that's too bad" passed through my brain for it to be followed by "dude, I wonder if I can score discount yarn in the closing sales?"

Nah. I'm just pissed they're going to be closed Thursday and Friday because I wanted to go before my trip!!

What are they going to do with the business? Would it be feasible to convert it into your vision of a Knit Cafe? Could you run it for them or would they take back a mortgage on it?

The woman who owns it is retiring, and I imagine if she were to sell it or turn it over, there would be plenty of people in line that already work there. I'm assuming that's not the case since their liquidating, but I may be wrong.

That building itself probably wouldn't be the best for a cafe, because it's a one story house with no kitchen. But, I'm excited about the prospects because now that means there are no yarn shops within the downtown area--they're all in suburbs, so I could possibly make it work in my area!

what?!? Oh my...now this means i'm going to actually have to FIND the other stores in columbus.
It's really really sad that wolfe is closing. :(

The date on the email said 2/17, but I noticed on the website they have classes scheduled through the first week of March.

I now think I know why there were so few needles there when I went in a few weeks ago. Sigh. This is really sad.
