(no subject)

Good lord I've had a productive day. So far, I've:

-gone to the dentist, where I found out I had three cavities, and am in need of a bite plate because indeed I am a sleepytime tooth grinder (I knew it!!)

-braved Victoria's Secret to buy a strapless bra to go under my bridesmaid's dress. And found out that yes indeed, I have gone up a band size, but not a cup size. But yet I still wonder why Vicki's makes bras with cups that seem to want to come up to my neck. What's up with that?

-picked up my package from the post office, and was surprised to find it was already my elann.com order: 20 hanks of Organic cotton to make a sundress for me (the cover of the most recent IK)

-drove to Old Navy where I managed to get enough things to make my summer wardrobe a little more complete, for both work and play. The whole place was strangely devoid of size 12 anything though. I found one of the three pairs of pants I tried on in that size, and that was in a color that wasn't my first choice. Yet they had piles of size 0s, 1s, and 16s. But no 10s or 12s. Maybe their buyer needs a clue about what sells out fastest. I did find a good multipurpose purse/worktote/knitting bag.

-went to Beauty First to try to find hair sunscreen (I'm getting ready for ComFest and I'm *not* losing this haircolor to the sun!). Found something close, and also came out with several other items.

-went to Tuesday Morning, where indeed they did have bags of cotton ease and wool ease sportweight. I grabbed the wool ease in black (for Broad Street mittens for me) and Cotton Ease in Bubblegum, which will either be a cami for me, or trade fodder.

-went to The Yarn Shop's new location. While the people were much nicer than a few times when I've been there, I still don't like that store. Too much novelty yarn and not enough basics. I got some notion type things, and also some things for my Secret Pal, but most importantly, I left without buying any yarn!!! This is significant.

-drove to the tailor to drop off my dress for alterations, only to find they were closing. So I'll do that sometime this week

Now, I am utterly exhausted, and have all the time in the world to knit. Hurrah!!!

We had a serious bitch-session at our knitting today (DTCFC folks, at Waiting Room this time). I was impressed with the new space (visited this past week for the first time since re-opening), and the counter lady was actually nice to me, but typically they have shitty customer service. You put your finger right on it with the too much novelty, not enough basics, too. I had a pleasant visit on Tuesday, but they still give me a creepy feeling.

You're making that dress? Eee! Now here's the thing: what's bra etiquette with something like that? Just let the straps show and who gives a damn? Cos I can't go without one, and frankly strapless bras make me miserable. :-P

Strapless bras make me miserable too. I've got a couple of thoughts on this. One, I can try to go without one at all (on occasion, I can do this, if the fabric is thick enough) depending on how the top ends up looking on me. Or, I can wear a skinny strapped bra and let the straps show (not my favorite thing ever, but people keep telling me it's ok now).

The third thought is that I could wear the bra I bought today. It's not only strapless, it's convertible! (It's the Transformer of bras!) Normally this is something I would shun, but [livejournal.com profile] luminesque has been raving about these recently and it really was the most comfortable one I tried on. It comes with both clear and bra-colored detachable straps that you can attach in different ways. I'm going to wear it with the clear straps crossed in the back if I get that ribbon x-back done by comfest, so then I'll know if they are sweat inducing nightmares or not (they're plastic!) It's the Very Sexy Convertible Strapless. It comes with those ridiculous water pads inside, but they are removeable. This is good, because with them in, it no longer needed the bridesmaid's dress altered at the top.

Oh cool, thanks for the brand name pointer. I may try that thing.

And that was a bitch session about The Yarn Shop, I forgot to include that in my comment the first time. *headdesk*

I have that exact same problem with Old Navy. Sigh. I think 90% of the women in metro Columbus are 10s or 12s and unfortunately I am one of them.

What/where is Tuesday Morning?

Tuesday Morning is a discount store (kind of like a Marshall's). The only one I know of in Columbus is in the same shopping center as The Yarn Shop, way back in the corner. They have good stuff, but this was the junkiest store I've been in in quite some time (even Odd Lots is organized!) The yarn was way back in the corner on a bottom shelf--you nearly had to lay down to get to it.
