How sad is it that my new touchstone for how old I am is "am I too old to audition for Reality tv?"

I guess that's all you get after you've passed the driving, voting & drinking ages. I am currently too old for Real World (which I've actually never seen) and American Idol. I am still in the range for The Apprentice (blah) and The Amazing Race (yay!)

I will not even deem things like The Bachelor & Fear Factor with the respect of checking the rules.

How can--what?! How can you be too old to audition for any of those things? You personally, and anyone?

Wow, I guess society now thinks that if you're past thirty you really do go in the garbage bin.

Not that I'm assuming you're past thirty. ;)

Yep, I looked, and you're hardly any older than I am. Good lord, what's the cutoff age for these things?

My friend Lisa and I used to watch the Real World Hawaii together over the phone in grad school, and we discussed trying out for it until we found out we'd both just passed over the cutoff age. Then we were heartbroken. Seriously! Sharon from Real World London was how old?

No to burst your bubble, but dude. Meredith and Gretchen on the Amazing Race are how old? I think as long as you're physically able, they'll take you.

Ha! I'm 28. But yeah, apparently, MTV and Fox at least regard me as a geezer.

The American Idol cutoff was *raised* to 28 this past season. Real World cuts off at 24!

yeah, M&G were way impressive (though I can't say i'll miss the sound of her voice)

Not sure how I feel about trying out for TAR though--next season is family teams, and there's just no way in hell I'd try for that, but maybe after that.

I'm way past that one, and I'm too old to donate eggs, and I'll soon be too old to apply to be an astronaut. If I remember the chart right, I'm almost at the turnover point (late thirties? forty?) where staying on the pill is more likely to kill me than a pregnancy is.

There aren't a whole lot of positive milestones along the way until maybe senior discounts at Denny's or qualifying for Medicare.

Fer cryin' out loud. Is that to make sure that everyone on there is childish, inexperienced, and less capable of behaving in an uninterestingly grown-up manner?

Oooh...didn't think about the astronaut one.

It's continually odd to me that I realize I am, or am about to be too old for things I just assumed as a child that I'd someday do. Like being an astronaut, or a model, or writing my first bestselling novel while still under 30. Odd.
