My book group in apparently on a Dan Brown kick (being a town resident and all), so we read Angels and Demons for April, Di Vinci Code for May. Ugh. I read the first one, and yes, I liked it is a "this is a superficial novel" kind of way.
I was less than impressed when reading the second one because it was the EXACT same story with a different subject! Young bueatiful woman looses father figure, needs Harvard Geek to help solve the puzzle. Puzzle blamed entirely on Catholic Church, but really masterminded by one selfish/vindictive individual.
Yes the symbolisim is fabulous, but if you've read some of the references he cites in this book you can get the same info with out the serial novel aspects.
I also went on a rant (and my expand in my own journal) about what is popular culture *doing* with this information that they are getting? Given the political climate and the climate in the church are people really just thinking this is a nice story and going to church on Sunday? I know my parents do. Grrr.
Our June book is Woman with the Alabaster Jar, and then we are moving on to Middlesex. I'm looking forward to July reading.
