Then, our last home game of the season, a double header of Ohio Roller Girls v. Ft Wayne Derby Girls on Saturday, July 18. Info and Tickets here.

Next up, tryouts! Are you a female skater over the age of 21? Or do you want to become involved wtih the sport of flat track roller derby as a referee, statistician, or other volunteer? Check out all the info here and mark your calendar for tryouts on July 21.

Lastly, a major fundraiser, with a chance for you to win cash prize money as Ohio Roller Girls present their first cornhole tournament at Quaker Steak & Lube on Saturday, July 25. I plan to play on my skates, which should also provide comic relief. Sign up here.

OHRG Skatemare Dec 13On Saturday, December 13, we're doing a fun holiday-themed exhibition bout. The Jingle Belles (Christmas -- I'm on this team) and the Roller Ghouls (Halloween) will face off in Skatemare Before Christmas. The bout will start at 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 13 at the Central Ohio Roller Hockey, 941 Burrell Ave, Grandview Heights, Ohio. Tickets are $5 at the door when you bring a canned good ($6 without). This one is in a new venue that is a little less "posh" so remember to dress warmly and bring your own seating.

Even if you have a holiday party to attend that evening, this should be a fun and quick event to get you in the holiday spirit beforehand.

We will also be guest grilling from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.Dec. 15. at the Arena District BD's Mongolian Barbeque (295 Marconi Blvd) in downtown Columbus. Proceeds from the event will help purchase new uniforms for the Ohio Roller Girls travel teams. BD's has arranged for a special dinner price on Dec. 15 only. For only $25, you get a complete dinner that includes one bowl and a soup or salad, fountain drink, tax and tip. Tickets can be purchased in advance, or at the restaurant that night.

Our regular season -- with travel teams only this year -- will be starting in February in Pittsburgh, then we'll have home games roughly March - July.

Some links here, here, and many many other places.

I have only been able to read a very little bit about all this, but I have decided I will be participating in this boycott. Because while I bought a permanent account a while back, I never would have done that had I not had the experience here for several years that I did while I was a free user.

I like lj. Even when I'm not here a lot. It's a homey place that I don't get from any of my other blogging services (also free BTW, SUP!)And I don't want to see it turned into some sort of pay to enter place. I like my friends. :)

So, one of the things that contributed to the timing of leaving my old job, starting the new contract gig and giving myself a scant week off in between was the upcoming regional roller derby tournament here in Columbus.

OHRG is hosting in it, and we're playing in it too. As you can imagine, that makes life for those of us doing double duty especially hectic. But things are coming together really well so far, and this event is gonna be awesome.

Some details:
The event runs Aug 17-19, and is back at Battelle Hall in the Convention Center, where we played last year. Single day tickets are $25, weekend passes (all 3 days) are $50. That's 12 games of derby -- high level derby from the best of the WFTDA teams East of the Mississippi River.

And, it's important to our All-Star team, because it's the first time we've ever played at home -- all four of our interleague games were on the road last year. To that end, we are selling single game tickets for our Friday night game against Providence so our home fans can see us even if they don't want to spend the whole weekend derbying. For just $10 in advance or $15 at the door, you can get in at 7:30 pm for our 8:30 game and cheer on the OHRG to victory.

If we pull off an upset and beat Providence (we're the last seed, they are 6th) then we'd play Carolina (3rd seed) on Saturday. Pull off a second upset and we'd be going to Nationals.

All the details.

Screening of Xanadu at Studio 35
Get ready for the next Ohio Roller Girls bout, Xanadu or Die by screening the classic roller skating flick Xanadu, starring Olivia Newton John and Gene Kelly with the Ohio Roller Girls Friday & Saturday, June 1 & 2. Prizes for the best Xanadu costumes and raffles to win tickets to Xanadu or Die. Pabst Blue Ribbon special! $5 admission. 11 pm. Studio 35 (3055 Indianola Ave. in Clintonville). [I'll be at tonight's showing of this.]

Ohio Roller Girls Car Wash
[Edit: Car Wash Cancelled due to a weekend of rain.]

Xanadu or Die
If you were at Carnival of Destruction in May, you know that the second season is shaping up to be full of excitement. The Band of Brawlers beat The Sprockettes, and the Blackeye Bullies handed the 2006 Envy Cup champions The Take-Outs their first lost ever, meaning all four teams now have a season record of 1-1. On Saturday, June 9, Xanadu or Die will be pivotal in deciding the match-ups for the playoffs in July, so you won't want to miss a minute of the action, as the Band of Brawlers take on the Blackeye Bullies and The Sprockettes face off against The Take-Outs. Tickets are on sale now at Piercology, Surly Girl Saloon, Score Bar and www.ohiorollergirls.com. Tickets are $10 in advance, or $15 at the door. Doors open at 6pm, first bout starts at 7. Intermission entertainment from the Fred Astaire Dance Studio. [Come see [livejournal.com profile] ziggy_bo43 and I face off!!]

Warmer weather means you need your car washed, right? So why not help out the Ohio Roller Girls and let us wash it for you?

On Saturday, May 5, the OHRG will be at the Tee-Jaye's on the corner of High Street and Morse Road from 1pm - 5pm washing cars and talking to our fans. A car wash can be had for the suggested donation of $5, or you can get a free wash with the purchase of a presale Carnival of Destruction ticket! Where else can you find a deal like that?

What's Carnival of Destruction, you ask? That would be the second bout of the second season of the Ohio Roller Girls. May 12 at the Ohio Expo Center. Flyer and details behind the cut. )

So I'm having a friendly disagreement with someone about a soft drink. 7-up has recently claimed they are now all-natural. One of us thinks that this is because 7-up is now free of color. One of us thinks it always was. Help us figure out who is right!

I know, I know, you're sick of hearing about roller derby. But really, I promise, if you haven't seen it yet, or even if you have made one or both of our first two bouts, you are not going to want to miss this next one. My team (The Take-Outs) is currently undefeated, as is the team we are playing (The Band of Brawlers). And the two teams that haven't won yet (Blackeye Bullies and Sprockettes) are out for blood in getting their first win.

Seriously, if you haven't come yet, you don't know what you're missing. Take it from my grandma, who came to Mother's Day Massacre and said, "We had a blast!"

The details:
D-Day: Sunday, June 4
Battelle Hall in the Columbus Convention Center
Blackeye Bullies v. Sprockettes
The Take-Outs v. Band of Brawlers
Intermission entertainment is jam skating (Kind of like hip-hop and break dancing on skates!)
DJ'd by DJ Moxy and DJ Kevy Kev
doors at 5 pm, first bout starts at 6
Yes, indeed, they serve beer. And cotton candy and dippin' dots, among other carnival-esque food treats.

Tickets are $15 at the door, or $10 in advance, from Piercology, www.ohiorollergirls.com , or, if you are someone I know in person, get them from yours truly. Just let me know how many you need and I'll pick them up at practice.

Come support The Take-Outs!!

OK kids. I've been making mostly friends only entries for a while for a whole variety of reasons, but I've now set the whole thing up that way. It's possible I'll make a public entry every once in a while, but don't count on it.

If you want me to friend you, comment here. No promises though.

Fun

I promise real content soon. Right now, my entire life is being devoted to Sunday's roller derby bout. I am a messed up mix of nervous, excited and I don't know what else.

Really? Really? I mean, I don't have one of my own, but I've never heard any guy I know express this wish.

Here's an interesting link: Global Rich List

You enter your yearly salary and it tells you how many people on the planet make less than you. The link I clicked it from warned "be prepared to feel guilty." I've often argued with friends that though we all of course think we're undercompensated at our jobs, we are incredibly lucky. Still, I wasn't quite prepared for the percentile I got dropped in at that site. It's very scary.

I'm incoherant right now, so I'm not able to say anything more than that. But check it out.

They're here! Tickets are on sale now for our first derby bout, April 23 at Battelle Hall. They're $10 in advance, or $15 at the door, if there are any left.

If you are someone who I see in person and you want tickets, let me know how many you want, and I can get them for you. I have some in my possession right now, and can get more at practices.

If you want pay via credit card (paypal) or want season tickets, you're going to want to go to the website.

Otherwise, you can buy them in person at Piercology on 1st Avenue or at Sunsports, which is off of Polaris Parkway in the Lewis Center area. Also, a bunch of us will probably be set up at gallery hop this coming Saturday night.

The first bout will feature the Take-Outs (my team) v. the Black-Eye Bullies and the Sprockettes v. the Band of Brawlers, with Cotton Jackson playing at the intermission. Fun!
