I was good during book club last night and didn't trash The DaVinci Code until everyone had a chance to talk about it. It wasn't a good discussion book though I didn't think, because all the questions we had were way too deep for the book. To the point where the people who liked the book were even looking at each other like "Huh? That wasn't in *there.*" The interesting part of the discussion came because about 90% of the book club members are Catholic, and also very liberal, so they had a lot of interesting insights on some of the parts of the book that are supposedly "controversial."

(I also learned that the Immaculate Conception doesn't refer to the conception of Jesus, but rather to the conception of the Virgin Mary. Only two people knew that, but still the rest of us (even the three non-Catholics) felt in the dark.)

We also had art books out to look at some of the paintings, and discovered that Sister Wendy referred to Leonardo da Vinci as having an "exceptional male physique." Wow.

We're reading Pride and Prejudice next, which will be much better.

I almost died on the way there though, making a left hand turn on a yellow light. There was an oncoming station wagon that apparently decided it was running the red light from about 100 yards back. It had to have been going at least 50 mph, in a 35. I narrowly missed hitting another car swerving to avoid being crushed by it. Grrrrrrr.... That's the second near miss I've had going to or fro K's house!

I thought I had enough work to keep me busy today, but I seem to have finished it all already. i need to invent something else to do for the next few hours. Sigh.
