Last week, we hit a local strip mall to look for shoes, jeans, and sewing notions. We were walking across the parking lot, admiring the bats zipping near the lights, eating insects. Then one of the bats took a header and hit the ground.
I ran over to check on it and to see if it was obviously hurt or what. It wasn't a bat.
It was a praying mantis.
Then I realized that there were lots more . . . big ones. All around. Some in the area, most on the ground.
have you ever had a dozen or more praying mantids track you with their heads? that's creepy.
We admired them before running for the car before they could eat us. Or before one could land on our heads.
