I like going on vacations that can involve museums, hanging out in local places, walking around cities, and the like. I'm not terribly outdoorsy and I'm not into the ultra-touristy stuff. I'd rather go somewhere with good public transport, as renting a car makes the price go up really quickly.
Boston. There must be Wombabes in Boston, which might help out on the affordable-housing front (or you could craigslist it), and Boston definitely has all of the rest of what you're looking for, including good public transport.
Plus I love it a lot. Not that that necessarily counts for much, but still :-).
