I have been harping on how great and wonderful a book Middlesex by Jeffrey Euginedes is for quite some time. I have been unsuccessful in campaigning to have my book club read it (mostly due to my lack of attendance) as of yet, but I think I might have a hook now. Seems it won a little thing called the Pulitzer Prize.

I truly, truly love this book. On the outside of the jacket, it sounds like a fairly compelling story (that of a young girl who finds out during puberty that she is actually biologically male) it's got sooo many more layers (the immigrant experience, a lot of 20th century US history, etc.) and it is written incredibly well.

I am obviously failing to describe it with any real justice. So let's leave it at this: read this book!!!!! I may re-read it sometime soon.

Other reading notes (I've been dreadfully bad at writing these lately): )

I stole this little candidate thingee from [livejournal.com profile] serenejournal. Here are my results )

I'm really surprised that Clark is that high on my list, because frankly, something about this man scares me, and I can't quite put my finger on it. I'm also surprised Carol Moseley-Braun isn't a bit higher.

In other political news, [livejournal.com profile] automat76 and [livejournal.com profile] ryan_rita, I think someone from slate.com was eavesdropping on us last night at Betty's, because they published an article about what the capture of Saddam Hussein means to the election. They left out our part about the convenient pre-holiday timing through.

And the gift wrap. Okay, maybe I just put the gift wrap in there now, for good measure. Grrrrr....

So, I got home today, and the garage next door has had its entire face/doors removed. So I am now imagining that the maker of the giant footprints on my porch this morning was going door to door to get a car removed from the front of said garage.

I still don't understand why I wouldn't have been woken by a knock, but the footprints were made by workboots and headed in that direction. I also find it odd that I didn't see any workers when I left, but it could be that they were waiting for the car to be moved after not finding anyone awake at that hour (and since I know its owner does not live in my building).

I feel much better. Now it's time to eat and study for the finals. Three days until I'm done with school, then the holiday onslaught begins...
