Living like it's 1799
Dec. 23rd, 2004 06:06 pmSo my email post sent from my phone at 3 am never made it. I was up because the carbon monoxide detector was beeping because the power had gone out and the battery backup was drained. The power came on about 4:30 pm. So I am back now.
Work was canceled, though not until early this morning. Don't know why it took them that long to figure that out. I ended up sleeping in to try to stay warm, then heading out to High Street to hang out in various places that actually had power with
automat76 and L. Eventually, we all trekked home, coincidentally at about the same time the power returned. So now, it's slowly warming up above 50 degrees in here.
The original plan was to go up to B&J's tonight, and that my high school friend J was going to be in town as well. I was going to drive her back to South Chuck in the morning and we were going to have lunch before I installed myself at mom & dad's for a few days. However, since about a foot of snow and crud got dumped on the Clark County area, she never made it up here. And I can't even get to B&J's because my car is totally encased in ice. Completely. I went out and tried to get into it about an hour ago, and there's just no way. I may run down to Giant Eagle later to see if they've got anything I can use to get into it, but I'm thinking at this point that I need to wait until the sun comes back up tomorrow to maybe try to take advantage of what little natural thaw there might be. I was able to at least work the lock on the passenger side, but couldn't get it open, and couldn't even get the lock to function on the driver's side. Joy.
So now, I'm going to enjoy my newly returned electricity and cook myself some dinner, recharge all my electronics and keep working on the last holiday gift to get done. And then I will try to drive to mom and dad's tomorrow.
Please do not let any precipitation fall from the sky tonight! That's all I ask.
