Aug. 1st, 2005 04:14 pmGood grief!
A few months ago, my cousin got a new job as a financial advisor type person, and I went through him to set up an IRA. I'd been meaning to do it anyway, so it worked out well.
He quit his job last week. Since that time, I keep getting missed calls with no voicemail left from the 513 area code. I finally received a voicemail yesterday, and figured out they were coming from someone else in his office. So I called the guy back today.
He's obviously very very young and inexperienced from the way he sounded on the phone. And he put me on the defensive immediately when he said, "Did I call at a bad time this weekend?" which seemed to me was implying I should have called him back immediately. Um, hello?? I was in the middle of something, and it was a freakin' Sunday afternoon! Furthermore, if you'd left a message the first time you'd called, rather than the tenth, you would have heard back from me five days earlier than you did.
He wanted to set up a meeting for Wednesday or Thursday this week. I told him I was busy. He tried to jockey for position again and asked if I wouldn't have just 20 minutes to get together. Again, I reiterated, I was booked from virtually 8 am to 9 pm both days (which is true!) I tried to say, as politely as possible, that I didn't have any questions, and was fairly hands off with this account. That was supposed to be the hint for him to stop bugging me. He didn't get it. I did, however, get him to concede that he would fax me the form I did need to sign rather than showing up to give it to me (he works on the other side of Dayton--you'd think he'd be glad I wasn't making him drive up here!) I got his email address so I could send him my fax number (I was walking down the street while I called him back.)
When I emailed him I noted that I much preferred that to the telephone for communication, and that it was easier to get a hold of me that way.
He just called again and didn't leave a message. He better not even be wondering where the form is. I haven't had a chance to get to the physical fax machine yet. Hello dude, I have a job too, and it's not waiting for you to pester me!!!
If he persists with the calling and not leaving messages, I may just have to have to get a hold of his supervisor. I don't think that's professional behavior at all, especially in the era of caller ID. Yes, I could just answer the phone, but I can't really always do that when I'm at work. Grrrrr...
