So last night, I trekked up to Polaris to meet the work girls and go see Coldplay. We were to meet at Quaker Steak and Lube, because they have a free limo over to the amphitheatre. Well, we were to meet at an ungodly early time, and I ended up leaving work 20 minutes later than I'd intended, so I ended up arriving well over half an hour late, due to ridiculous traffic. Then, I got to the restaurant, only to find they'd closed their parking lot so that they could let a bunch of motorcyles show off, so I had to walk across a scary strip mall to get there. (What do the suburbs have against sidewalks?) No problem though, we all were there in one piece. But, the limo was a no-go as they didn't have room for 6 in any of their limo runs. So we parked our cars at Target and got ready to take one over to the show.

Problem: S's sister gets out of her car and says, "I have a flat tire." Oops. And it was really flat. She'd run over a nail. So me, having just downed two beers, says, "No problem, you have a spare?" Then J. and I proceeded to jack up the car, remove the flat tire and install the spare in about 20 minutes flat (including doing several steps out of order and having to start over a few times.) K. took photos with my phone, so I'll post those later. They were all so impressed that we knew how to do this, and that we did it so quickly. I was shocked they didn't know how.

S. remarked when we were done, "That's the best automotive work I've ever witnessed by a woman wearing beaded flip flops and rhinestone sunglasses." Hee.

They are threatening (since they all work in the communications department) to do a story on me in the employee newsletter, contrasting my state fair knitting win with my ability to change a tire. Nothing like being well rounded.

We got to the show in plenty of time, missing most of the opener, but that's ok. Coldplay was really really good. Despite the fact we were waaaayyyy out on the lawn and could just barely see them hopping around on stage, they did a decent job of pulling everyone in. Chris Martin even ran out into the pavilion during the encore. He also said that Usher is shorter than all the members of their band, and that they are all better in bed than Usher. Hee. I like slightly dorky funny British boys.

The only song they didn't play that I wanted to hear was "Spies" but they did do "Yellow" and "The Scientist" and "The Speed of Sound" so I was happy. I tried to record a couple of songs on my phone, and the quality was just ok. I think "The Scientist" came out the best because it was just vocal and piano. I'm gonna see if I can get my hands on some software and try to clean it up.

We were all very happy at the end of the show because the weather was absolutely perfect, and it was such a good show. Then we got to the parking lot. This is why I hate Polaris, Germain/Germane whatever the hell it's called. They had one teenage boy directing traffic at the main intersection, and the rest of the parking lot, with thousands of cars, was a free for all. We sat not moving for half an hour, watching the guys in the car in front of us get high, and laughing at the odd things we were overhearing as we watched drunk college kids try to find their cars (my favorite: "If I could set anyone on fire, it would be...." and then she was out of earshot. My god, the possibilities.) Then we figured out we could turn around and get out quicker. I think we got out in about an hour, but there were still a few thousand cars behind us at least. Crazy.

I'm wiped out today. The show was over promptly at 11, as per Polaris noise ordinances, but I didn't get home and in bed until well after 1 am. I'm so used to being able to stumble home from shows and into bed. This driving thing is for the birds. Little Brothers and Promowest have spoiled me.
