I've worn contacts for so long that I can easily put them in or remove them with one hand (or both hands, simulataneously removing/inserting both lenses).
The key is to look up, pull the lower lid down gently with one's ring finger, then use your thumb and middle finger to grasp the contact near the bottom (it will be near your upper lid, as you're looking up) of the iris/lens, and pinch it away from your eye. This is also my method of removing them when I have too-long-for-mucus-membrane fingernails. ;)
I sort of draw the lens down with my middle finger as I bring my thumb in from the bottom side to hold it, which results in the suction being broken, so the lens pops out as the fingers pinch it away from the eye. If my nails aren't long, I use my forefinger instead of my middle finger.
