Ooooohhh....a Dali-themed vacation deal! I have a college friend who lives in Philly too. Hmmmmmm....

Had to run home earlier to let the gas company come in to read my meter. My meter is in my basement and their normal time to stop by and read it is 10 am Monday, when there is virtually no chance I'll be at home. I got a nasty letter last week threatening to shut the gas off since they hadn't read the meter in 5 years. Ooops. So they gave me an appointment with a window between noon and 11 pm! And, though I expressed my dismay on the phone that is was a bit odd that they could give a four hour window in the morning, but nothing smaller than a 10 hour window in the afternoon, I was shocked to find that not only did they call me before arriving, but they also were early. By the time I took my 10 minute drive home, the meter reader was waiting on me. She was done and gone in five minutes. Unfortunately, she smelled like she'd rolled around in dryer sheets -- that lingered longer than she was actually there.

The weird thing? When I got home, I heard chainsaws. The house next door, home to the ill-behaved, undisciplined dogs and their iller-behaved owner, was having all the trees in the backyard cut down. No shade on my patio anymore! It was beyond bright out there. Weird.

Our meters are in our basement too. And they act like I'm insane to not want to leave my house open all day while we're at work so they come in & read it.

So yeah, we have ours read "officially" like once a year too. I send it in online or just let them estimate it the rest of the time.

Ugh. My mom had her meter read for the first time in ages the other day, and her bill is now sky-high. Did they get you, too?

Incidentally, this is Jennifer, from the knitting group. Groups. Whatever we are now. Short hair, glasses, library school. You know [livejournal.com profile] chaptal and [livejournal.com profile] masterbetty (of course), so I thought I'd drop by. Hope that's OK.
