pixiecrinkleI called Discover to activate the card they sent me a few weeks ago. Now, I don't ever use the card (it's a low APR balance transfer machine), but they transferred me to a real person, so I decided to ask to my weird question.
Um, can I please have a card that doesn't have the American flag on it?
The nice young lady in their customer service center laughed and assured me that I was far from the first person to ask for this. I apologized, but said that I kind of found it tacky.
The real word I meant was something more along the lines of "blasphemous" but in a patriotic rather than religious manner. Is there a word for this?
And though I'm not what most people would refer to as traditionally patriotic, it still squicks me a bit to see the flag used as decor, like on beer cozies or bikinis. Or this. And to use it on a credit card just seems particularly an egregious statement of "democracy = capitalism" or some such thing. Ick.
