So I jinxed myself the other night by saying "I haven't been hung over in three months." And after leaving DTCFC because a (really really bad) poetry slam took over the place we were knitting, I joined some friends at Betty's then ended up at BW3 for a few more beers.

Ugh. So, so very ill. Possible TMI alert: I may be the only person on the planet who has only once thrown up whilst drinking, but *always* ends up doing so while hung over. Ick.

So I tried to come to work yesterday morning, and made it here and stayed for about an hour before leaving after throwing up twice more. A day of bedrest and some Amy's no-chicken noodle soup and ginger ale eventually did the trick.

I did still keep up my end of the bargain in going to the fair en masse last night. We ate our way through the fairgrounds. I took a spiffy photo of the butter cow with my phone, but am having trouble getting it out of the phone right now. I'll have to try that again later.

I apologize to any of you who I gave directions to regarding the location of the knitting at the fair. It seems the Venus Vibe monstrosity/semi truck is no longer at the fair, so it no longer makes a reliable landmark.

I did get my paperwork filled out so some sort of prize should come my way when I pick the things up next week.

Tonight, [livejournal.com profile] automat76 and I are going to go back to the fair for the Prairie Home Companion Rhubarb Tour. If it weren't a bajillion degrees outside, and we didn't have to run right after work, I'd suggest we go as our altar egos Midge and Pidge, who are good Minnesota Lutherans, don'tcha know.

I don't think I'll eat at the fair tonight. Or if I do, it will not involve dairy products. Ugh.

Also, any excellently mockworthy lines from the poetry slam? :-D

Well, there was the punk rock poem that used the word "dude" about 19 times. But really, overall, it was just sad. So, so very sad.

*cries*

Do they at least get points for earnestness? Or should we not give those to pretentious boys?

Yeah, I know the answer to that. *sigh*

Have you heard they are making a Prarie Home Companion movie? I'm excited!

What was this year's special butter sculpture? I remember last year it was Lewis and Clark.

Thing is, I don't think he was that pretentious. If he had been, I would have been more ok with it I think. He struck me as just trying too hard, which was all the sadder. I wanted to scream "Get a backbone! No, your own backbone, not someone else's!"

I did see that about the movie--it looks interesting!

I was not all that thrilled with this year's butter sculpture. They didn't do a famous person or anything. It was just the traditional big cow and calf, and then there was a little kid who'd dropped his ice cream cone on the floor, because he was stunned by a giant ice cream cone (which was probably about 7 feet tall). It was a very realistic giant ice cream cone, but not so cool, as say, John Glenn, which they had a few years back.

Ah, OK. I made an assumption there...mind you given the crowd that was showing up, and the mix of poetry + young men, I don't know why I'd ever assume one of the readers was pretentious... :-D
