Ranty Pants
Nov. 23rd, 2005 09:10 pmI received, in the mail today, two pairs of pants I ordered from J. Crew's clearance sale. I like their stuff, but can never afford it unless it's on super sale, when they are down to one or two odd sizes of things. However, this time around, I caught it early enough that they had my size in two things I needed: a pair of standard jeans, and a pair of fancy pants (velveteen trousers I can wear to work and fancy parties).
So, first, I tried on the velveteen trousers, because I feared they would be the ones that wouldn't fit. They actually fit quite well, but they have a rather tall nap, and so a ridiculous amount of friction occurs betwixt my thighs as I walk, so I felt as if I was walking through sand. Perhaps if I take them in a bit, and wear heels? It made me giggle, nonetheless.
Second, I tried on the jeans. Why can I not figure out my inseam? I ordered 33s. Now, I knew that sounded fairly long, as I'm a mere 5'5" with a long torso and short limbs, but my favoritest jeans ever are guys 33-32s and they seem too short to me.
Now perhaps what's going on is that the old jeans shrunk. Or maybe my womanish hips take up the slack in guys jeans, whereas women's jeans are cut for such things. I don't know. I just know these jeans are way too long. So I am now stuck with two pairs of jeans that must be rolled up or worn with heels. Thankfully, the hems on these aren't too finished, so I should be able to shorten them fairly easily myself, but do we want to place bets on how soon I get to that?
And really, I wanted to wear those tomorrow, if I get this freakin' sweater knitted. I may be looking at an all nighter right now. And yet, still, I won't have the proper pants.

Date: 2005-11-28 07:04 pm (UTC)I used 2 hands of Lorna's Laces Lion and Lamb, which is about 410 yards. Mine was half as wide as the original, and the same length. I think I did 6 increase rows instead of 12, but I can double check when I get home -- I'm pretty sure I kept my notes on this one.
