The Bible is often not stressed in Catholic schools and churches the way it is in other Christian faiths.

In high school, we had an "Old Testament" and a "New Testament" class. The Old Testament class was taught a lot like a history class, just examining the various stories. It was actually really enjoyable. But that was the first real exposure to actual *study of the Bible* that I can remember - our religion classes in grade school were more geared towards teachings of the church, general Christian dogma, etc.
