First best friend: Betsy S., who I met when I was under 3 years old, because our parents were in Farm Bureau together. We were friends all through grade, middle & high school, but during college, she kind of stopped talking to all of us from childhood. For a variety of reasons, this does not bug me in the least.
First real memory of something: Pressing my hands out on the screen of the door when my parents brought my sister home from the hospital when she was born. I was about 2 months shy of 3 years old, and I can still remember that giant red Grand Am, and my grandma J. standing behind me.
First car: I learned to drive in an old lady car – a Chrysler New Yorker which was hand-me-down from my Grandma J. to us, but my first car that was just mine was a Ford Escort hatchback. It was a former driver’s ed car, and it was the car from hell. It died a slow (and painful, at least to those driving it) death through 3 years with me while I was in college, then 3 more with my sister until she graduated.
First real kiss: I’d like to say Jamie A. in eighth grade, but to this day, I’m not sure it really *was* a kiss. He was a sweet boy though. If not him, then my freshman year of high school boyfriend Rodney, who was older (a junior!).
First break-up: Um, I guess that’s Rodney again. We strung that out into an on-again, off-again thing until after he graduated from h.s. though. Does high school *really* count?
First job: I worked in the knock-off Dairy Queen in my home town (the Polar Bar). There is nothing like going home smelling of ice cream and bleach.
First "adult" book: I read Little Women in the second grade, just because the school librarian (who I thought was patronizing –tells you what sort of child I was) told me I couldn’t. It took me about half the school year, but I did it.
First screen name: Ummmm….I used to use “freakgirl” a way long time ago, which meant something then, but I identify less with now.
First self-purchased album: INXS’s “Kick,” in seventh grade. I still think this is a great record.
First funeral: I don’t remember if it was my great grandmother (Nannie) or my Grandpa S’s wife Lee. They were both around junior high/early high school I think. I’ve only ever been to one other funeral besides those two (my other great grandmother) and I don’t deal with them well at all.
First pets: I had a cat named Fluffy when I was very very little. I lived on a farm though, so all the other cats kind of blend together. We got our first Norweigan Elkhound “King” when I was around 6 or so I think.
First musical instrument: I’ve played flute since I was 10.
First piercing/tattoo: Got my ears pierced when I was 10. First body piercing was my navel when I was 18 & a freshman in college. First (& only so far) tattoo was a year later. I’ve been on a piercing hiatus since graduating from college, but I’m beginning to get the itch again lately.
First big trip: We went all over the place when I was little for antique shows, so this is hard. I know I went to Disneyland when I was 6 months old, but that can’t count. I guess it would be Virginia beach when I was 6 or 7.
First play/musical/performance: I played Pocohontas in the Thanksgiving play in 3rd grade.
First musician you remember hearing in your house: My parents had very few records that they played when I was little, but I primarily remember Willie Nelson and Linda Rondstadt. My sister and I also came up with dance routines to ABBA’s greatest hits, the Laura Branigan album with Gloria on it, and the Flashdance and Miami Vice soundtracks.
Last cigarette: Last year at Halloween, I eventually smoked the clove cigarette that was a prop for my flapper outfit. The mostly authentic cigarette holder I was carrying made it taste like plastic.
Last big car ride: I don’t like long car rides all that much. I’ve been as far as Pittsburg a couple of times in the last two years for IKEA trips.
Last library book checked out: A couple of Tori Amos piano books to try to teach myself something.
Last movie seen: A View from the Top, which was very entertaining, and the perfect “I’m sick and whiny” movie.
Last beverage drunk: I had a weird Lemon Lime punch thing at the coffee shop this evening. It was very very green.
Last food consumed: The soup from the last post.
Last crush: That would be the current one. He knows who he is.
Last phone call: With STS this afternoon while he was at work.
Last tv show watched: Actually sat down and watched? Um….I think it was the last half of a Queer Eye for the Straight Guy about a week and a half ago.
Last time showered: Yesterday morning. Then a bubble bath last night. Yum.
Last shoes worn: I’m wearing my New Balance running shoes that I *love* right now. Before that, I was living in my little lilac Diesel sneaker/mary janes last week.
Last cd played: PJ Harvey’s “Is this Desire?”
Last item bought: A pair of purple Prada Mary Jane heels for a scandalously low price, and a black turtleneck sweater to wear with my tweed mini-skirt
Last annoyance: Realizing this afternoon that I have a good bit of next week’s math homework done, but haven’t yet started this week’s.
Last disappointment: Finding out after the fact, that because of my job switch, I’m not eligible for my mere 1% performance evaluation raise this year. Grrrrrrr….
Last soda drunk: This crazy new thing called Steap. It’s a Green Tea/Cola soda. Not bad at all really.
Last ice cream eaten: I’m not huge on ice cream. I had some Masala Curry Chocolate ice cream at the North Market several weeks ago.
Last time wanting to die: Like suicidal? Not since I was in my early teens, thankfully.
Last time scolded: What counts as scolded? I suppose it was the nearly getting thrown out of Barcelona story from a few weeks back, but does that count if we didn’t deserve it?
Last shirt worn: I’m wearing a grey strappy tank top and this ridiculous bell sleeve cardigan made of sweatshirt material that I love right now. Good sick clothes.
Last undies worn: Plain old navy blue cotton panties. I’m sick, give me a break.
Last website visited: www.qpb.com to cancel the automatic selection this month. I really need to cancel my membership, because it sucks money away from me, but they give you these addictive bonus points that give you “free” books and I’m a sucker for that.

I don't know why I do, but I love these things.
