All things media....
Jul. 21st, 2003 10:53 pmSo, BestFriend and I decided to go to some movies at Studio 35 on Saturday. Being that I am officially a student again, the double feature is a mere $3.50, so it's a hard one to pass up. So we went to Legally Blonde 2 & Charlie's Angels 2. Um....well, I like Reese Witherspoon, I really do. But if the girls does one more thing after this and the travesty that was Sweet Home Alabama, then I'm really going to reconsider that opinion. I dubbed it, "worst movie I've ever seen in a theatre." CA2 was better, if only because it was what is was supposed to be (pure, unadulterated cheese) and I still like watching chicks kick ass. Plus there's that whole identification with Drew Barrymore thingee.
In the world of books, I have recently stopped reading a book, over 25 pages into it!!! I have never, ever done this. It was Anthony Trollope's Barchester Towers. I just could not get into it. So I read the next book club book instead (Three Junes) and loved it (I didn't even thing I'd care that much for it.) Julia Glass has so redeemed the "first novel" after the travesty that was The Dive from Clausen's Pier. Then I read The Nanny Diaries while recovering from a migraine this weekend. It was an okay book for what it was, but wow, why aren't these Rich Bitch Park Avenue Shopping Moms being arrested for child neglect? It was really depressing.
So now, I'm reading In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez. I like her a lot. Then I'm hoping that my cheesy paperback club will get the new Margaret Atwood out in paper soon because I'm dying to read it, but I don't want to have to shell out a billion dollars for it. (Especially since my car muffler is sounding awfully odd right now--I hope it's not anything trickling in from the accident -- I've only had the car back from the body shop a couple of weeks.)
The Drexel hasn't had anything that's really grabbed me lately (though I do think I want to see Whale Rider). I hate wishing for summer to be over, but it's such a dry spell for movies for movie snobs like me. :-(
