So, today was the appointment at Stained Skin. I was nervous, because I got my first tattoo about 10 years ago, on the base of my spine, and I passed out several times during the process. It *hurt*. Well, after today, I'm thinking that guy's machine had problems because this tattoo is at least four times the size of the previous one and was really not that bad. Sure, the coloring on some of the larger birds was rather unpleasant, expecially near the bottom of my scapula and my collarbone, but ultimately, it was more about the fact that he was going over the same skin that was already irritated rather than anything else.
So without further adieu, I bring you my origami cranes:

And for those of you who aren't squeamish when it comes to fresh tattoo photos, a closeup is ( behind the cut )
I'm really thrilled with the background. When I got there, the artist spent some time cleaning up my sketch (I had way too many way too small birds in the original) and he started with the outlines, then the color in the birds. Then, for the background, since I just knew I wanted it to be "be blue" and "show movement" he sketched out the swirls on my skin with a sharpie before tattooing them on. Cool.
After that adreneline rush in the late afternoon, I'm now getting it cleaned up and lotioned and putting myself to bed. I have to go back to work tomorrow, for the first time in a long time, and I need my rest.
