So, today was the appointment at Stained Skin. I was nervous, because I got my first tattoo about 10 years ago, on the base of my spine, and I passed out several times during the process. It *hurt*. Well, after today, I'm thinking that guy's machine had problems because this tattoo is at least four times the size of the previous one and was really not that bad. Sure, the coloring on some of the larger birds was rather unpleasant, expecially near the bottom of my scapula and my collarbone, but ultimately, it was more about the fact that he was going over the same skin that was already irritated rather than anything else.

So without further adieu, I bring you my origami cranes:

And for those of you who aren't squeamish when it comes to fresh tattoo photos, a closeup is

I'm really thrilled with the background. When I got there, the artist spent some time cleaning up my sketch (I had way too many way too small birds in the original) and he started with the outlines, then the color in the birds. Then, for the background, since I just knew I wanted it to be "be blue" and "show movement" he sketched out the swirls on my skin with a sharpie before tattooing them on. Cool.

After that adreneline rush in the late afternoon, I'm now getting it cleaned up and lotioned and putting myself to bed. I have to go back to work tomorrow, for the first time in a long time, and I need my rest.

Beautiful, congratulations!

They did a huge line drawing of a Bosch character on my friend T_Ktl's ass when she came to visit me, ages ago. Hee.

The flesh is thinner over the bone at the base of yer spine--that's usually the standard explanation for why those areas hurt more. A boyfriend got his first tattoo over his RIBS, the fool.

My college roommate got her first on on her ribs and was fine, hence why I thought I'd be ok with the base of the spine thing. I think my major problem with the old one was also an empty stomach (which means no blood sugar) and the fact that the vibrations reverberated right up my spine. Yuck!

I actually did decide to do this now so that everything is all healed up in time for summer, most specifically comfest, which is in June.

I'm so vain!!! :-)

It's a local festival here in Columbus. They have bands on 4 stages, beer, vendors, etc. It's in my old neighborhood, and it's basically a big drunken hippiefest that takes over the park. And, the pride parade steps off from there on the Sunday, so it's probably the most diverse peoplewatching anyone can find in these parts. It rocks.

So I see you went to Stained Skin. Let me start by saying...good choice and I absolutely LOVE the ink. Which one of the guys did it for you? Anthony is working on my boyfriends and he will soon be starting one for me. I can't wait. Talk about addicting! Don't say I didn't warn you! :0)

Anthony did it -- I'm thrilled with it. Need to post a new pic since it's all healed now.

And yeah, I know all about the addiction. That's only my second, but have tons more ideas. :-)

Yep!! He's awesome! When my boyfriends is done I'll post a picture of it on my journal and also when I get mine done! Mines going to be a cover up! Can't wait to get it started! You should go to Hell City this year. It's May 12th to the 14th at the Hyatt downtown. Stained Skin and others will be there this year! Should be an awesome show!
