The weekend

I cannot wake up this morning. My brain just feels like it's in a fog. I had a terrible time getting out of bed, and if I wasn't taking tomorrow off, I'd probably have taken a half day today. As it is, I need to get the bulk of my defects resolved by the end of today so I'm not getting calls while I'm on the road tomorrow. Having a cloudy brain makes that a little bit harder.

Mom and dad were up yesterday. They stayed a bit longer than I expected, which was actually kind of cool. The quilt show in Grandview was very good. I knew my landlord had a piece in the show, but didn't find out until I got there that she had curated the show.

We had lunch at Ted's Montana Grill. As in Ted Turner. I knew Dad would like the buffalo theme, so we went. I had a salmon filet cooked on a plank of cedar. It tasted exactly like you'd expect cedar to taste. Kind of a weird thing at first, but it was actually pretty good.

I got lots of decent photos at the Chihuly exhibit, though I was a bit disappointed in it as a whole. It didn't seem to me that the glass was integrated into the plants as well as it could have been. Plus, the place was absolutely packed, which made it hard to get around without stepping on anyone else, and to look at the art without feeling like people behind you were getting impatient. I'll post the pictures later on tonight--I need to upload them so my mom can get them too. I think I got some good ones of the orchids they had on display too.

The Oscars weren't terribly exciting last night. Overall, I think I was happier with the awards I cared about than in recent years (Sophia Coppola for Best Screenwriter, Sean Penn & Charlize Theron in their categories.) I just don't get how LOTR gets best picture. I only saw the first one, but the effects, while better than most, still weren't where I thought they should be for a released film. Yeah, I'm picky. But my view is, if the technology hasn't caught up with what you want to show, find another way to show it. And maybe the technology did improve by the third one, but it didn't look to me that way from the clips they showed last night. Plus, I really wanted Lost in Translation to win.

The songs were much more interesting than usual though. Alison Kraus has an excellent voice. And I loved that Eugene Levy & Catharine O'Hara performed as their characters from A Mighty Wind. I also loved the Triplets of Bellville song, but I wish the backup singers hadn't been lip-syncing. I may go try to catch that at the Drexel this week.

The iPod is still giving me some trouble. I used the external hard drive functionality of it to get all my mp3s off my work laptop, but I need to upload them to my desktop machine, then use iTunes to sync the iPod in order to actually be able to listen to them. So right now, I only have about 5 CDs on here to listen to. The weird thing is, I thought there were other songs on here as well, but I can't see any of them. So I need to find out if I have to manually organize them or what.

I haven't had luck finding any documentation for the problem I'm having where the iPod is causing my whole system to crash. It keeps corrupting my Netscape files. It's very strange. I think I need to go in and fiddle with some of the auto-settings in XP, because I suspect it's starting a bunch of stuff that I really don't need to have running automatically and hogging my processor.

I need to take a little drive tonight and figure out how to get the FM transmitter to work so we have music tomorrow in the car. I didn't have much luck trying it with the radio in my bedroom, so I may have to take this one back and try a different type. If so, I might go get a car charger too, because I'm quickly realizing that the battery really does only last 8 hours. I may be out of power by lunchtime.
