Okay--I've enjoyed reading everyone else's responses to this meme, so I'm jumping on board.

Go browse through my list of interests and pick one that either you know nothing about or can't fathom why I'd be interested in that and ask for an explanation.

Cat power? (Of course, mine think they rule the universe, but I'm curious.)

Cat Power is a singer/songwriter who does these gorgeous mellow, almost melancholy songs. Her real name is Chan Marshall and she's known for being completely shy and nervous about performing. I've never seen her live, but I'd love to.

Web usability is what I do for a living. I joke that I make things pretty, but really my job is also to make sure that sites have consistent logical navigation. It also can have to do with making sure a site functions correctly with screen readers and other things that help people with disabilities use the web.

Good examples are fortunately around more and more these days. Bad examples include things like "mystery meat" navigation (where you have to roll over an image to find out where clicking it will take you), unclear instructions, not showing someone what a proper input is before they submit something in the wrong format, etc.

iron chef family dinner?

Iron Chef Family Dinner (or ICFD, as we lovingly call it) was the brainchild of my friend [livejournal.com profile] automat76. Once a month, a group of us gathers at someone's house, and we have a potluck, where everyone brings a dish using the theme ingredient (or sometimes just the theme). So it's a takeoff on the format of the Iron Chef TV show. This months' theme is Iron Chef: Irish. Last month was "Decadence." We've also done beer, black beans, heavy cream, cheese, etc. We started in January 2003 and haven't missed a month yet, which is a big feat for us!

At some point, we plan to get a website together and turn this into a movement (like Slow Food, or the like). We'd like to see ICFD chapters all over the place. :-)
