knitting fiend
Mar. 21st, 2004 11:57 pmSo, I finished the sweater. It's, um.....large. As soon as I got it all stitched up and together, I realized that the pattern wasn't exactly correct in part, so that I didn't decrease the front for long enough. So it's more of a cowl neck than a turtleneck. It's ok, but definitely needs something over it, otherwise it has a tendency to make me look a bit squareish. I tried to take pictures earlier but the batteries in the camera were dead, so that will have to wait until I hit Target tomorow evening.
Started mom's fuzzy feet slippers this evening. I'm flying through these. I'm using Lamb's Pride Bulky, which is a bit heavier than what the pattern called for, but my gauge is ok on it. I also did a practice swatch earlier and felted it quickly by hand. These are going to be cool. I'm so glad that I treated myself to bamboo needles when I went to the fancy yarn shop the other day. These are heavenly to work with. I have the cuff done and just finished the heel shaping and the instep decreases. I've never knitted socks before, so the speed at which I've been doing this is amazing me. I now understand why some people never do anything but socks. The instant gratification aspect of it is cool. I actually think these may be done in time to get to mom in time for her birthday on Saturday. I'm kind of thinking I might drive them down there, because I want to be able to explain how they were done (I know she'll ask this.)
ICFD: Irish was this evening at B&J's. Possibly the last time ever at their current place, because they put an offer on a house this evening. I'm happy for them -- they've only gone looking twice, but they really seem to like this place. All foods were great--including a yummy apple celery soup. My Irish Stew from The Single Vegan cookbook was well received. I was a bit concerned it was too "rustic" looking. I'm increasingly concerned about one of the children of the group though. He's over 3 and not yet potty trained at all, and he barely speaks. I know kids develop at different speeds, but I'm not sure this one is getting a whole lot of interaction that will help him along. And his baby sister is due this week, which may complicate things. He is a sweet kid, I just think he lacks in direction. And what do I know about kids? He's probably completely normal.
Doc appt in the morning for the yearly checkup. I'm definitely talking to her about the cholesterol test to confirm what the quicky test at work told me. And maybe about some changes to my migraine meds, to see if we can get some more prevention going.
Bubble Bath, then bed. Mmmmmmm.....
