pixiecrinkle: (looking up)

Went to find the other yarn shop in C-bus tonight, named appropriately enough,"The Yarn Shop." It turned out to be in Upper Arlington, not far from 315. I went looking for the same shop in its old location 2 years ago, and managed to find it the week the owner was on vacation and it was closed. I found it tonight, at 5:55, when they were closing early, at 6. She didn't have the Noro yarn I was looking for (no one does--distributor problems apparently) but she had an excellent selection of notions, and I got some point protectors, stitch holders, and the latest issue of Rebecca which has some unbelievable patterns in it (hot pants! pants! a dress!). Nice nice lady--she offered to order the yarn for me, and I just might take her up on it, once I figure out which colorway I want.

I found the Penzey's Spices store too! It's in the same shopping center. They were closed by the time I noticed the building, so I'll have to take a weekend field trip sometime.

Also ended up at Half Price Books. They had the Vintage Knits and the Bags & Backpacks books from the Vogue Knitting series on sale for $5 each, so those are now in my collection as well as another book that had some really cool sweaters featuring patterns I'd actually wear.

So then, I came home, and cast on the sweater I got yarn for at Wolfe Fiber Arts Monday night. It's the cover of Vogue Knitting, seen here. It's supposed to be made in Adrienne Vittadini Celia, which is 100% silk, and pricy, which would have made it a $100 tank top. So I bought the slightly cheaper Lana Grossa Sonata, which is synthetic, and really shiny. The color I got is not quite white, and a little bit silvery looking. It's going to be quite pretty. It's knitted with two strands together, so it's got a bit of stiffness, but I think that's going to make it kind of elegant looking. Hard to tell from the 1" I've gotten done so far, but who knows. The owner of that shop told me to bring it in for show and tell when I'm done once I told her what I was making (I think she wondered why I bought *all* of her yarn in that color). I made myself a promise several months ago that I'd not go back to the yarn shop until I could wear the last project I made, so that will work out perfectly.

Also worked a bit more on the sampler afghan tonight. I have 13 weeks to get the remaining 12 blocks done, plus border before the wedding. I put together a little quickie web page to track my progress on it. That's 'cause I'm a huge geek.

Time now to shower off the sunburn pain. And try to figure out why my nose piercing has chosen to act up this long after I got it. I think it has to do with accidentally getting vast quantities of moisturizer in it. So it's the sunburn's fault.

I need a knitting icon to warn you all when I get all obsessive like this. Must work on that.

I've heard that a lot of stores are phasing Noro and other yarns from the same distributor because of such problems. Hmm. Sounds like a great knit-pedition! I have been on a major knitting spree recently, too, which is surprising considering how hot it is out here.

Yeah, I'd read something about it over on [livejournal.com profile] knitting after I got home. The stuff is soooo gorgeous, so I don't want to substitute. Then again, I'm not sure I want to be knitting with 100% wool in the heat of summer. :-)

Yep. Gotta keep mom up to date on the progress. :-)

I think you'd like the spice store--it's the place we got catalogs from a couple years ago. It seems like a fun field trip and an "errand day" for us.
