I don't understand the leaps of logic these people make. Operation Save America has descended upon Columbus the past few days. Which means anti-abortion people on the corners during my commute. I had no idea until I read this article that they'd descended in such numbers--I've only been seeing four a day (Including yesterday, a twelve year old boy holding a huge picture of a supposedly aborted fetus in one hand, and a bible in the other). I expected to see them at the statehouse, which I can see from my cube at work, but apparently they chose city hall instead.
Last night, driving home from work, I ended up behind some sort of pickup truck/parade float hybrid. I thought at first that it was in the shape of a large naked ass, but then realized it was a crude cutout of stone tablets with the ten commandments. Actually, there were 11, as OSA had added their own, "Thou Shalt Pass the Federal Marriage Amendment." Um, yeah, whatever. How is it not sacriligious to add your own commandments? It's not Mad Libs!! They also had the word "homosexuality" painted on the side in big rainbow bubble letters. I couldn't figure out what their point was with that -- kind of confused the issue.
I'm really pissed that they are thinking of burning not only the pride flag (we've seen that before here in Columbus) but a copy of the Quran. To me that's about equal to cross burning. And I don't see how they convert anyone to their view with tactics like that.

Stop The Hate Dance
Date: 2004-07-23 07:51 am (UTC)I do apologize for this cross post, but i feel
this is an important matter for our community.
This past week Operation Save America has
been in Columbus, using our City Hall as
a campground to spread their message of hatred
and intolerance.
I attended one of their rallies and their message
i heard, to me, was little difference than that of the Neo-Nazi. At least with the Neo-Nazi, they say I hate you, you don't have the right to exist. Operation Save America seems to take that same message and hide behind God in saying it.
I would like to ask everyone that may have strong
feelings about this to come to Columbus if you can
to join us. Help us express our simple message to
Operation Save America, "NO"!!
Stop The Hate Dance and Peace Rally! Let's Take Back our City From
Operation
Save America and Celebrate Columbus!
Friday, July 23, 5 to 8 pm, at Columbus City Hall, 90 W. Broad Street.
