pixiecrinkle: (knitting)

Just did a little quick math. If I want to finish all the knitted gifts I have planned for winter holidays this year, I need to be finishing a project every week to week and a half until Christmas. Thankfully, only one of them is terribly involved (a cabled sweater vest for my grandma) and most of them are smaller things like silk garden scarves for my mom and sister, hats for my dad and my sister's fiance, etc. But, of course, there are a few birthdays in there, and a bunch of projects I want to work on for me too! Maybe I'll bribe myself to finish things early by allowing myself a certain amount of time on my own projects for each thing I finish. Probably not a bad idea.

I have one side to finish on the afghan, then I can sew up the mitered corners, embroider a few simple flowers on the outside (which I might skip, not so much in the interest of time, but in the interest of the fact that my yarn embroidery frankly sucks) and then check it for any glaring errors to fix up. The wedding is Saturday. I'd intended on sending it beforehand, but I'm out of time, and this thing weighs a ton, so I think I'll take it to the reception. At least then mom and grandma and my aunt can ooh and ahh over it, if I put in a gift bag rather than a box.

I almost finished the back of my cross strap tank last night. I have about five more rows left on the armholes, then I can do the neck and be done with that. Somewhere, I've messed up, because I have about 10 fewer stitches than I should at this point. I know I did one repeat one time too many, but that only accounts for 2 stitches. So either, I really went nuts on the decreasing, or there was an error earlier in the pattern. I never did any increasing at the bust because of how many stitches I had. I wonder if there were the right amount then, and my improvised decreasing messed it up. Other people on [livejournal.com profile] knitting seem to have successfully followed the pattern though, so it might just be me. In either case, I might get to use the rest of this week to work on the front of the tank, if I finish the afghan tonight, in which case I might just finish the thing in time for it to be too cold to wear. Of course, our August has been beyond mild, so it's not like I've been wearing tank tops anyway lately.
