Woke up Friday morning feeling like death warmed over. For some reason, I decided this was due to the cigarette smoke at Little Brother's Thursday for the Juliana Hatfield show. It wasn't. Felt like crap all day Friday, woke up Saturday feeling a bit better, so went thrifting and such with [livejournal.com profile] automat76. Got a kick ass 1960s royal blue and black houndstooth coat for $2.70 (needs cleaning, but how do you beat that?) at the thrift store on Indianola, and then ended up at Filene's where I splurged on pair of Prada pumps. They are purple mary janes. Gorgeous. 70% off!

Ended up at Italian Fest with some kids, then briefly at Havana to shoot a game of pool. The smoke really did me in again though, because this morning I didn't really even have a voice. So I had a lazy day of attempting homework, reading the next book club book (Bag of Bones) and watching a silly movie (A View from the Top, which was really quite entertaining, surprisingly enough.) Am taking tomorrow off from work to attempt to get my voice back and get ahead on some homework. Splendid.

Off to yet another nasal passage opening hot bath now.

[livejournal.com profile] spandita called [livejournal.com profile] automat76 while I was at her place and we got to speak to him for a bit. Luckily her phone was finally back in service. We got cut off while I was talking to him, but I assume it was either her phone, his, or the phone card. But twas lovely to hear his voice and know all is well. :-)

Am still working on how to get a text message to go through to Spain. Anyone with AT&T wireless wanna share that info with me?

So, I was chopping broccoli (which always reminds me of Dana Carvey) to steam for lunch and in my head was bemoaning that I was going to have to toss a perfectly good organic brocolli stem, because I had no use for it. So, I decided to make soup. I still had half a butternut squash that was perfectly good in the fridge, so I chopped that up too. Here's the thrown together recipe, for posterity. )

This was the best soup I've ever made I think. And it was perfect, because it was the end of me getting sick, and [livejournal.com profile] automat76 is getting sick now, so she had some healing soup too. Vitamins!!

Have discovered a new hangout, I think. The Waiting Room, sandwiched between (under) Piercology and (beside) The Full Monty (yep, it's an all-nude male strip club!) It's owned by the people who own Piercology. Not only do they have decent coffee prices ($2.50 for a large latte, and no extra charge for soy milk!!!) but they also have free wireless internet, including a couple of PCs you can use, and cards you can borrow for your laptop, if, like me, you don't have one. And, between 5 & 6, they show The Simpsons on a big projection screen. So I hung out there this afternoon and got some math homework done, because there was quite a bit of banging going on in the vacant apartment next door. I'm having better luck working ahead in stats than I'm having working ahead in the programming class. I think I have a mental block when it comes to Java.

And, in more dramatic news: ALL THE DISHES ARE DONE!!!! (Okay, well, the martini/batter pitcher is still soaking, but it was that, or start chiseling at it with something sharp, and I didn't want to scratch the silver rim.)

There is a condo for sale down the street from me. It's the same layout as my current apartment, plus one more room, and a half bath. I found the price online last night and it's on the upper end of my price range, but technically in my price range. So now it's time to see if it's even possible to buy in this neighborhood with no down payment and a looming debt as large as mine I guess. I may call my old boss's husband, who is a realtor, and always asking if he can help me look for a place. Hmmmmm....my wheels are turning.
