Saw The Company this evening at the Drexel with K (S had to run home). I liked it a lot. K was expecting more of a story, and honestly, so was I, but once I realized I wasn't getting that, I liked what I did get. Robert Altman is good at the "sit back and let it unfold" sort of directing, and this particular scheme (go into a ballet company and just shoot a story within the day to day) works well with his style. And the dancing is sooooo cool. If you don't like ballet, this is not a movie for you. There's lots of shots that are basically sitting the camera in front of hte stage and watching.

I liked it. A lot. The guy who plays Neve Campbell's boyfriend is hot. And Malcolm MacDowell is hilarious, in a very restrained manner.

I've not been reading nearly so much since I've gotten back into hardcore knitting. But I did pick up Girlfriend in a Coma last week for the discussion in [livejournal.com profile] a_book_a_month. I'm still really not sure what I thought of this. I liked the style in which it was written, especially at the beginning. But the book kind of turns into post-apocalyptic sci-fi for 100 pages or so. There's warning that might happen, but I just kept thinking he was going to write his way out of this before it actually happened.

I need to sit down and think about this one before I really form a coherant opinion of it. I can't even form a subjective opinion of it right now, because there's so much to digest in so little time.

Got my blood test results from the doc in yesterday's mail. Turns out that even though my cholesterol is high, my ratio is excellent, so I'm in the clear on that. My blood sugar was OK too, which I was a bit concerned about due to family history. But, my thyroid level came back low. She had a "need to discuss" note next to that, so I need to call her office this afternoon. I called my mom last night and found out that my grandma has the same problem, as does my mom's twin sister (who seems to have nearly everything).

I definitely need to call, because in the past 12 hours, I've done just enough web research to link my thyroid levels to my migraines, my wrist pain, and the fact that I'm at my highest weight ever and can't seem to change it.

Where'd those straws go? I need to grasp at them a little more. :-)

College student takes on 'The Simpsons'

Credit Steven Keslowitz, a Brooklyn College sophomore who turned his Sunday night obsession with "The Simpsons" into a scholarly study of the Springfield scene, ruminating on subjects from Bart's bad boy persona to Marge's towering 'do.

In "The Simpsons and Society," Keslowitz fixes a serious eye on America's favorite dysfunctional cartoon crew, looking for deeper meaning in the antics of Krusty the Klown, Chief Wiggum and the rest of the twisted townsfolk.
