Every six months, when I get my car insurance policy update, I go onto insurance websites and shop for a better rate, even though mine is currently staggeringly low, for fairly high coverage (including uninsured motorist, towing, rental, etc.)

I currently pay around $300 for six months of coverage. This is after it went up after they noted my accident (I somehow managed to run the light at Third and Broad) which occured almost exactly 2 years ago.

The best quote that I can get other than that out of comparison engines and other company's websites? Between $450 and $900 for the same coverage in the same time period.

Guess I'm staying put.

I called Discover to activate the card they sent me a few weeks ago. Now, I don't ever use the card (it's a low APR balance transfer machine), but they transferred me to a real person, so I decided to ask to my weird question.

Um, can I please have a card that doesn't have the American flag on it?

The nice young lady in their customer service center laughed and assured me that I was far from the first person to ask for this. I apologized, but said that I kind of found it tacky.

The real word I meant was something more along the lines of "blasphemous" but in a patriotic rather than religious manner. Is there a word for this?

And though I'm not what most people would refer to as traditionally patriotic, it still squicks me a bit to see the flag used as decor, like on beer cozies or bikinis. Or this. And to use it on a credit card just seems particularly an egregious statement of "democracy = capitalism" or some such thing. Ick.
