You know you've spent too long on google sightseeing when you think you may have actually spotted the great wall of China. I'm still not sure--no high resolution photos outside major cities in China.

I did findthe Kremlin though. Anyone know what that enormous building with trees inside just to the east is?? I googled a lot and best I can find is that it's a hotel, but that didn't sound right to me.

I can't find my city map just this instant, but when I find it, I'll try to remember to look. Of course, a LOT has changed in ten years.

I'm fairly sure, however, that is the Rossiya Hotel. I could be wrong.

That's what the only map I could find that labeled it said it was. I just couldn't rationalize the overhead view with the photo of the hotel they showed. Pretty cool building!

Thanks for linking the map, by the way. I'm having fun looking at the school and following streets to see where I lived and ate and drank. Of course, it's a bit difficult, since my frame of reference involves Metro stations, but I can find the major places I spent time.

btw, from your link, zoom out three times. IN the upper NW quandrant, where the colors change, you can see a small oval (it's a stadium). I lived very near that stadium.

The classrooms I attended were downtown, very near the Kremlin.

That's really cool. Bit of a trek, wasn't it?

I have had so much fun looking at cities in Europe & Asia and comparing their layouts to cities in the U.S. It's really amazing how different they can be.

It's not as far as it looks. And those subway trains are mighty fast. Moscow is a HUGE city. I was still in a relatively "old" section.
