Anyone know of a reason Vicodin would make my knees hurt? I know that's odd but I've taken two now (one last night and one this afternoon -- I ended up staying home from work because of my mouth pain) and both times I've noticed my knees feeling oddly heavy and almost swollen about an hour after taking it. Weird.

I can find nothing:

I have to take a double dose of opiates to get the same pain relief others seem to get, and it causes profound constipation, so I tend to avoid it.

Could be a rare side effect. Do you normally have joint pain. I know a lot of people who become way more perceptive of body pain after the meds wear off. More often people get the "itchies" in varying effects. I only get an itchy nose.

Do you normally have joint pain.

The jury is out on that. My doc has been asking me that in conjunction with all my other health stuff, and I've been saying no, but I'm starting to wonder if odd "feelings" (not necessarily pain, but awareness?) that I do have are technically classified as "joint pain." I can't figure out how to find out if other people have this or not.

the opiate/tylenol combos all make my joints ache horribly. They also make me itch, Vicodin is special--I get hives. Needless to say, those drugs have all been crossed off the list. ;)

Yeah, I definitly had the itchiness last night too, but whether it's because I read that on the bottle or because it really made me itch I don't know. I normally hate opiates, so I'm not planning on taking any more of this unless the pain is really bad.

Vicoidn makes my jaw hurt - I guess it makes me grind...
But everyone has different reactions to diff pain killers - some make people nauseous, some make people loopy or sleepy, etc. I had a dysphoric reaction to 1 called Loricet (or something like that? I'd know the name if I heard it) - where I bawled my eyes out and had suicidal thoughts and spoke my "mind" to my family (told them they were all assholes and to fuck themselves, etc.) - the nurses recognized the dysphoria (opp. of euphoria) and I never could take that med. again. People have weird different reactions.
Vicodin is my pain killer of choice though - strongest with least side effects.

I have the jaw thing anyway--I think that's part of the reason that I needed the root canal in the first place.

Dysphoria does not sound fun. Yuck.

Vicodin makes me wake up laying on the cold bathroom floor, not knowing how I got there, so YMMV when taking it. ;)

Scary!

I have the opposite -- no way in hell am I going to sleep when I'm on opiates.

It could have something to do with fluid- the drug changing/restricting the flow. Pain killers make me either sleep instantly or get really loopy.

Ah, science! That's what I wondered. I have no idea how opiates work to reduce pain, so I should read more about that, but that makes sense.

I definitely had the loopy, but I never can sleep on them. Waaaahhh!!!!

I don't know what your'e taking it for, but I would ask the doc. Not obvious side effects could be bad or could be nothing.

Be well!

It was for the root canal I had Wednesday. I'm probably not taking any more of it, and since it didn't but me that much while I was on it (of course, nothing really bugged me at all then) I will just keep it in mind should I ever have to take it again.
