There is a ferris wheel on State Street. And when I say "on State Street" I mean in the middle of the road. Right smack across from the Ohio Theatre and the statehouse. It wasn't running, but there were tents, and a ticket booth, and something that looked to be a stage, also in the street.

City Center, which continues to die its slow death (it's been doing this since I started working downtown 5 years ago now) had a coming soon sign up for a new business which was called something like "Urban Dermal Art Studio." I can't decide whether I think that's going to be a microdermabrasion office, or a tattoo studio. Can't imagine that it would be the latter, but "dermal art" sounds kind of like a hoity-toity euphemism for "tattoo" so perhaps.

There's an ice rink next to the ferris wheel. That may be the stage you mentioned. Wasn't there an ice rink where city center used to be? Wasn't that taken away because it was too hokey and unsophisticated for Columbus? Or am I projecting again :)

An ice rink? Fabulous!

And yes, there was one, actually in the big grassy hole by City Center on High and Main. I'm not sure the reasoning for taking it away, but I never saw the reason for the grassy hole in its stead.

Yes, it being put togethor by the Downtown Columbus association or something like that. It's on the cover of today's Dispatch.

The grassy hole was supposed to be for the fourth anchor store that never happened at city center. It was rumored that a Saks Fifth Avenue was going to be erected in that space soon after it opened, but you see how that story ended.

I heard they were going to put up a ferris wheel and an ice rink. Strange.

That is a very good question. I heard the rumor during our more-or-less weekly fire "drill"*, but I didn't hear who was doing it. My best guess would be the city.

*Caused recently be workers doing welding and forgetting to turn off the nearby heat sensor. It costs the company mucho bucks every time they do it, too. Heh.

So that is the "good" part of the fire drills, eh? You get caught up on the downtown gossip? :-)

That, and we get a nice half hour "recess" outside. I think the weather has only been bad (raining) once so far. That wasn't so nice.
