OK. This is just weird.

After having seen the arch-rival last night (and honestly, that's not a good description of our relationship, just the easiest way to encapsulate it in two words) I decided to look up her blog this afternoon. I found it a few months ago, and have been reading it sporadically.

A post from a few weeks ago indicated she'd gotten work accepted into a literary magazine. My favorite literary magazine. The one that I've subscribed to forever, and then one day, opened it up to find a familar name in the masthead. Coincidentally, the name of the boy we both dated, who works there now as an associate editor.

What on earth is the universe trying to tell me???

That the art and literary world is largely controlled by an in-group of men who has so much contempt for women that they not only won't wake up to the legitimate talents of hardworking female artists and writers, but will go out of their way to engage in the blatant promotion of gals they are foolin' around with in order to be able to say, "Look, see, she only got this because she let me bone her?"

I'm cynical, probably. But that's what I used to see, like, 99% of the time in the nasty little petri dish that was BGSU's art and literary programs, so that's what I know. :)

Actually, I'm probably more guilty of saying such things about her than he is, because while she does have talent, she doesn't (IMO) have as much as our profs made her out to when we were in school. Hence, the whole "arch-rival" comment anyway. If he did give her any special dispensation for that, then he's a better person than I, because when they broke up finally, it was not pretty, and I don't think he has probably spoken to her since.

And in some ways, he is The One Who Got Away for me. So I'm not willing to write him off like that, despite his other faults.

Look at me, the hopeless romantic!! ;-)

It's all right, you know him personally, there really are exceptions to the rule. ;)
