I had the weirdest dream last night. I was at some sort of camp or school or something. I'm not quite sure what it was, but it was definitely supposed to be educational and there were lots of kids about, including the son of a work friend of mine, who is about 5 years old. I was sitting in the classroom with the kids and the guy in charge was showing us a band that was in a room behind a glass window and they were about to play and needed a guitarist. My friend's son volunteered, went up to play and was quite good. I had just gotten up to go into the glass room (studio?) with him when a blonde man came in. It was Kurt Cobain. Seriously.

The head teacher guy was trying to get him to leave, and Kurt Cobain was kind of passively arguing to stay. I asked why he had to leave and the head guy said he was just there to make trouble, and that is "always happens like this." That's when I realized that not everyone knew he was there. I asked for a show of hands as to who thought we were arguing with a blonde man, and only one or two people raised their hands. None of the kids could see him. So I convinced the head guy to let him come in the glass room and watch the kids jam. This made him pretty happy (as happy as Kurt Cobain would get, I guess.)

The kids played a song, and then the apparent ghost of Kurt Cobain thanked me and left.

Really, really, weird.

This was arguably better than the two dreams I had last week about either working with or competing with Daniel V. from Project Runway. What's up with my subconscious and the cult of celebrity??

Bizarro dream! What is even more bizarro is that I, too, had a dream about Kurt Cobain last night. But I don't remember most of it. Just that he was in the park where I took Wolfie to play. Weird.

Hey, completely random question...where did you get your skates? I was looking online to go ahead and purchase a pair, but they all look really manly. Is that pretty much the selection or is there a truly fabulous website that I am missing? I mean, Im not looking for skates that are so girly that they have Barbie and flowers on them, but these all seem to be designed for men. And in men's sizes.

Yep. They are all in men's sizes, so they tell you to order one size down. And so they are pretty "angry" looking, mostly because they are going to be speed skates.

I ordered mine from Sin City Skates because it's run by another derby skater in Las Vegas (Ivanna S. Pankin). A lot of the girls have ordered from Low Cost Skates as well, with varying customer service experiences.

I ordered these: http://sincityskates.com/2nd/R3.html and will probably be replacing the bearings and toe stops, and maybe the wheels. That's pretty typical it seems, as you figure out how you skate and what works best for you.

I kind of wish I'd gotten these: http://sincityskates.com/2nd/torq.html because of the way the laces attach. I'm tearing through laces at an alarming rate.

This is a pair a lot of people have too: http://sincityskates.com/2nd/tri-flame.html At least the flames are somewhat decorative.

A couple of girls do have skates with white boots, and you can always swap the wheels out too to up the femme quotient! :-)

If you get them and want to go skating some weekend, let me know. I need practice and am still adjusting mine. Maybe we should have a stitch n' skate even!
