What do I do with my hair?

Yes, that's a super-bad photo, but I've been sick since Sunday, so I have good reason for looking like that.

I need to get a trim, badly. I was keeping my bangs super short a few months ago, but haven't had a hair cut since October or so, except for one attempt at trimming my bangs myself. I'm going to go to a new place soon (haven't decided where yet) and I need some guidance.

This is the longest my hair has been in 10 years -- all through college it was about 3" long all over -- so I don't want to do any super drastic cutting, but I'm willing to experiment.

Offhand, I'm thinking of trying to grow the bangs out, which means possibly getting layers cut in it. That's fine, because I while I was aspiring to those long straight cuts (think Gwyneth Paltrow) my hair is way too thick to ever look that straight without excessive styling products/appliances. And while I can be into primping, time is not on my side in the morning.

Help?

I posted almost this exact post with this exact hair (in fact, you remind me of me -- we don't look just alike, but I think we have a similar look) a few months ago. Lots of folks said GROW OUT YOUR BANGS! so I'm trying that.

But I had your exact current cut for years, with regular trims. It got boring.

Now, I'm going back and forth among headbands, pony tails, and just letting it hang. Still boring.

That's about what I'm doing right now: ponytails, and letting it hang (which is much more accurate I think than "wearing it down"). The most interesting thing I can do with it is twist it up in chopsticks. I *wish* I could do that cute "oh, doesn't it look like I just whipped this up here and left it where it was" look, but if I try that, it still looks overly neat.

Most people say they wish they had hair with volume like mine, but I find myself yearning for super straight superfine hair that's just... I don't know....hair, I guess. :-)

I think I'm delirious from cold medicine. I'm stopping my mumblings now. :-)

I actually do wear pigtails quite often, and I think they are long enough to braid now. Can't really do that for work though -- professional image and all.

All that gets me is carded in bars though, which has recently been followed by, "oops, sorry" when they realize my age. The worst was when the Skully's door guy took a look at my ID and said, "You were born in the *70s*? Go on in!" Not a good self-esteem day for me.

(this is what I meant...damned click happy fingers)
I braid my hair (in two braids) all the time. Generally I get carded anyhow. And then argued with. I guess my ID picture does not properly portray what I have become (;

Ha! I am all too intimately familiar with the "are you sure this isn't fake?" thing too. My last license had me with 3" long platinum blonde hair, which, by the time it expired, looked like a totally different person.

The one I have now is totally blurred all over -- even the writing. I joke that the woman at the BMV didn't have her glasses on, but a lot of door guys tend to give it all the tests to make sure it's legit. Not fun.
