I have been in two meetings today for the early stages of projects/redesigns, where someone in the meeting has declared, "We must treat the users like children! Lead them through!"

While I am not entirely against this design philosophy, I also think, that sense we have a captive userbase, we can teach them some simply standards to help them figure things out on their own. But I'm not coherant enough to explain that today. I'm drug free (no more decongestants!) but still disoriented in my cloggedness.

Ugh.

I wish more people where I work (PC software and Internet hardware support for MCI, formerly WORLDCOM AKA SATAN) WOULD see that philosophy, but not have ME LEAD THEM!!!!

We support our customers support teams, not their users...thats THEIR job...grrrrrrrr

Glad some fo the evil is leaving your Body BTW... Keep up w/the YOGA!

Well, I'm a UI Designer, so if the users don't "get it," then ultimately, it *is* my problem. But, since I'm the only UI designer, and I'm often sitting there with about 4 developers/PMs and twice that many business users, I know I'm fighting a losign battle.

I suppose it's better than the "let them figure it out themselves" mentality we were dealing with before, but still!!!

Actually, the yoga has been nonexistant for some time. I've actually had the motivation this week, but balance and energy have been an issue. I'm starting back in hardcore next week.
