The high school meme
Jan. 24th, 2004 03:02 pm1. Nickname in high school?
None that I can recall.
2. Sport you were into?
Hated sports. My entire town revolved around sports. I was the marching band drum major.
3. Had a circle of friends?
Same ones basically from kindergarten through senior year. I only talk to one of them now.
4. Best subject?
English, Calculus, German.
5. Worst subject?
Typing. The C I got in that freshman year cost me being salutatorian. I can type *fast* just not entirely accurately.
6. A teacher you owe life lessons to?
Both of my English teachers were cool, but the one I had Freshman and Senior years rocked hardest. She once told my mother of the way I reacted to a certain situation in her class, and while I can't remember exactly what she said, the sentiment stuck with me. Basically that I would never be popular in high school, but that in adulthood, nothing would stop me.
7. A teacher you wanna kick in the ass?
My French teacher was just not on this planet. And all my math and science teachers were fundamentalist Christians, or very close to it, and let that seep over into their classes. (This was a public school.)
8. Freshman year: Was OK.
9. Sophomore year: Sucked worse than any year of my life other than sophomore year of college. I was ahead in all my classes and so was with the class ahead of me all day, and they tormented me (and my friends) to no end.
10. Junior year: Was OK, except my band director left and they replaced him with a woman who was insane.
11. Senior year: OK, but couldn't wait to get out.
12. Your best friend was? My ex-friend Betsy. Who I'd known since three. And who quit speaking to any of us once she got married (and neglected to send any of us thank yous for the gifts!)
13. Your worst friend was?
Probably the one I refer to as "super-slut." She was friendly to my face, but horrible to me behind my back, and she didn't even hide it well. We finally cut off contact with her senior year, then I saw her once after high school, and found out that even then she spread rumors about me (not that I cared except for the amusement factor at this point).
14. Cafeteria food sucked?
I ate chicken patty sandwiches with mayonnaise and pickles every single day of high school I think.
15. Most hilarious school rule?
Can't think of any really.
16. Wore uniforms?
Nope--public school.
17. How was the prom?
Junior was better than senior, but both pretty much sucked.
18. Who was prom king and queen?
Have no clue.
19. Any achievements?
All of them. :-) Seriously, I was uber-geek. Probably the most stellar accomplishment was that three of my best friends and I were on a quiz team that played the same schools as our sports league. We kicked ass all four years, and even earned ourselves scholarships my senior year on a TV show (where we absolutely killed schools up to 7 times our size -- we only had 200 in my high school).
20. Were you popular?
Not in the least. I was probably among a subset of people, but they were the geeks who were in all the non-sports activities too.
21. Best song that reminds you of high school?
"Stairway to Heaven" was our junior prom theme. Also, my friend J & I used to sing Zeppelin & Pink Floyd songs in gym class. We were kind of behind the times I guess (this was the early 1990s). Anything Nine Inch Nails or from The Crow soundtrack too though.
If I'm feeling really brave, and come across the right box of stuff, I'll post a high school photo of me so you all can taunt me later. :-)
