When I was driving home from work this evening, there was a plane with a banner trailing it flying overhead. This in itself is not unusual, as the "3C Body Shop" banner is often flying over various Columbus festivals in the summer. But not on a Tuesday evening.

Nope, this was something entirely different. It was far too high for me to read clearly, but I think it read "10 (or 18?) Week ABORTION" then listed a phone number. There was a box on the side that may have been a fetus picture, but I'm not entirely sure--it could just have easily been a logo of some sort.

It bothered me mostly because I couldn't figure out if it was a clinic advertisement (which would be very very odd) or an anti-abortion message. Either way, the phone number was never going to be visible from the altitude at which the plane was flying, nor could the photo be made out.

Very weird. Any other Columbusites see this?

hm... not a columbusite so obviously didnt see it, but i wonder if it was an anti abortion thing contracted to the banner flying company, who made that pilot fly it, but the pilot didnt want to, so instead flew too high to do any good.

granted, i'm probably reading WAAAAY too much into that.

but it's an interesting thought.

Oooh...now that I kind of like. I've often wondered in the summer when they fly hate messages over pride if there's just an uber-conservative plane advertising company in the area, or if they will fly with whatever. I like your explanation better. :-)

You have people flying hate messages over pride? That's really disturbing...

Probably even more disturbing that I find that normal, huh? Columbus may be just about the gayest city in America, barring San Francisco, but unfortunately, it's still in the conservative midwest.

Yes, we saw it flying over downtown at about 2PM today. I think it was a 716 area code, which is in Western New York State. Still not sure if it was an ad for an abortion provider or an anti-abortion banner.

Messed up.

Aha. Well, the out of state thing would lead me to believe that maybe it was an advertisement for a state with less restrictive laws than Ohio, but that makes no sense if it really was a fetus picture. And I don't think 10 weeks would be a problem here, but it's been a while since I've read much about that.

I bet this would have been mentioned on the news if not for this damn lion story.

Pure speculation, but I think it's an anti-abortion banner. I'm sure if we looked closely, the ten month old fetus would be sucking its thumb and calculating sine curves.

The local news won't touch that topic, there's a fake lion out there!

Mind if I add you?

You are absolutely right!

And add away--I'll do the same.
