Welcome to Sunny Florida
May. 21st, 2004 10:35 amGot the new Tori Amos DVD in the mail yesterday. I watched about half of it while knitting last night--it's the last show of the Scarlet's Walk tour, and it's really, really good. The movie starts out with a bunch of shots of Toriphiles saying how many shows they've seen. The highest number was 125! My measley 5 shows and 1 private radio station thingee pales in comparison. I can't imagine that you can remember details of shows when you've seen that many though.
The DVD is cool though because there were a lot of things I'd forgotten from the Promowest show last summer (which I think is in my top 5 concerts of all time.*) She's wearing the same dress in the DVD that she wore at the show here, and that broke halfway through the show and had to be fixed. Oh, and she yelled "He's just a pussy!" in the middle of "Sugar" which is really funny, but fits too.
The bonus features include a backstage interview with Tori's mom & dad. Her mom is like a slightly more grounded elderly version of her -- it was kind of strange. But she seems like the sweetest woman in the world. She kind of resembles David Letterman's mom too.
*Because Nick Hornby had a piece in the New York Times today, I shall now attempt my top 5:
1. Tori Amos, Dew Drop Inn Tour (1997?), Aranoff Center, Cincinnati
2. Ani Difranco (with Maceo Parker, 2000?), Brewmaster's Gate, Columbus
3. Some Girls (Juliana Hatfield, 2003), second show at Little Brothers, Columbus
4. Tori Amos, Scarlet's Walk Tour(2003), Promowest Pavilion, Columbus
[tie]
5. The B52s, 2003, Promowest Pavilion, Columbus
5. Nine Inch Nails/Marilyn Manson/Jim Rose Circus Sideshow (1995), Hara Arena, Dayton
That's probably not right, and I'll probably think of something else to include five minutes from now. But at this moment, it's as accurate as can be.
